Spent a rare afternoon able to noodle and play with the gear. My conclusion is this:

I prefer the JCM800 clean Lo with pedals to the Hi input (boosted or un-boosted) :-/

This was not the plan. The plan was to be a rawk cool dude ya know \m/

But no - more balls the other way. Go figure.

The most awesome sound of all was Guitar (either DGT or LP) -> Guv'nor -> Peacekeeper -> Klone -> a bit of plate reverb in the loop.
Red ones are better.

Nope, not a philistine at all. I do the same thing, plug pedals into the low input and I used a mk 1 Guv'nor too. Sounds great and far more flexible than just plugging in to the hi input (as good as that sounds for rock stuff).

Were you at bedroom or gig levels?

That's how I ran mine as well, with a DGT oddly enough. Box of Rock into low input sounded stunning.

Master on 8, then Torpedo Reload dumping it back down to loud bedroom level

I'm very happy with my Helix, but that idea still makes my trouser dept move a bit.

When I had my 2204 I used the low input with pedals. I used it in conjunction with a Gigrig loopy 2 with an OCD and a Keeley modded DS1 in one loop for crunch rhythm and a Tubescreamer plus delay in the other for lead. I could select clean, rhythm or lead by stepping on only one switch at a time, no tap dancing.
    Very versatile set up.

I like the JCM800 lo input too, though I normally add a switch to change the cathode resistor on the 1st stage (2cnd stage on the high gain channel) so you get more JTM type tones, bit more gain, tighter bass and less compression.

Love that circuit so much you can do with it, but it sounds great stock too

I prefer the high input, but I won't deny the low one is a great and very often overlooked sound.
