After my last band folded, the drummer and I agreed that we'd like to look for another project together. I've got another friend who's also a drummer so the old drummer (who's also a bassist) is going to switch to bass. Ideally in the long run we'll add (an)other player(s) to the band but in the meantime we're going to get together and jam some cover songs to see how it feels.
So, what are some fun cover songs for a trio? I don't want to spend all night pretending to be SRV, because I ain't going to convince anyone.
Oi. I heard that. Give me a break. It's not
my fault I know two decent drummers and you can't find one.

Honky tonk woman - The Stones. Fairly easy and, again, fun to play.
I won't back down - Tom Petty. As above.
I'm going through a similar situation. I've got a drummer on board and know some bassists. Me and the drummer had a run though rehearsal to see/listen to what worked. What we found is that some songs just don't work when you try them and some do. So IMHO try the above songs and some random songs and see what works.
Also as a guitarist work out how to amalgamate the parts and still sing (assuming you are singing). Get the intro, solo and outro right and you can strip down the accompanying part.
Also listen to radio 2 (wait) and wait for those songs you haven't heard for a while but sound great. If you enjoyed listening to them again maybe someone else will. Also throw in some instrumentals.
