    I'm not really a techie-type photographer.  Sorry!

The camera is a Nikon D5000.  The lens was a Nikon 70-200, fully zoomed.  I just had it on auto with the "sport" setting, so it keeps going "snapsnapsnapsnap" as long as I hold the button down.  Then I picked out the best of the snaps and deleted the rest!

Is that a house-martin? First person to post a picture of Paul Heaton loses.

I think so.  Bertie called it a Swallow, but we've always thought of them as House-Martins.  They visit every year :)

    Great pics, TTony!

I finally managed to get a shot of Bruce on the way home last night. I keep seeing him when I don't have my camera, then he isn't there when I do! But last night it all came good.
I'm at full zoom too (20x optical) but it isn't a DSLR so is softer than yours having been cropped down as well. Still, I got Bruce!

Bruce is cool. He sits on this little 'island' on a dam on the river I cross to get in to town. I've never seen him with another heron, but I'm guessing he has a mate and/or family nearby and that he's out catching food for them. He's been around this spot for 2 or 3 years now off and on and I've been determined to get a photo of him as he's far more interesting than the seagulls which seem to rule this town.

Nice one Stu - sounds like you took a bit more trouble over yours too - I just stepped outside our back door.

Everytime that I get some half-decent shots I think "this is fun, I should do some more of this" ... and then don't!

Oh I know that feeling, TTony!
When I had use of my ex's DSLR I'd always say "must do this more" too, but then not bother as it meant taking a big camera bag out and about so had to be a planned photo trip.
I've got a compact travel camera now - a Sony HX20V - and it lives in my backpack now in case something comes up when I'm out and about.
Bruce came up, camera came out, 2 minutes later job done!
