Haven't they been doing this for a while? I was under the impression that the various EC Tweed amps were part of this range?

They have done lots of tweed hand wired amps. This is new I believe?

It looks like they are going after all of those Boutique 5E3's with the Custom Deluxe, looks a bit too expensive to be competitive though.

It's got the fender badge though, some high end boutique builders like Victoria and Clark are the same if not more than that

  • A grand for a champ?

    Nah thanks! Crikey.

Didn't they build one of the EC ones badly? I vaguely remember @icbm having one that fried itself.

Yes, due to having no HT fuse. More of a design issue than build quality really, but still not exactly ideal.

It was a 'relic', that's why they charged so much for it.

It should be cheaper though, although it has the Fender logo, the boutique manufacturers have the advantage of being cool.

In my more extravagant days I bought over time a lot of the hand wired Custom Shop amps....Vibro King, Tone Master and Dual Professional, these were all early models with the serial numbers stamped in the chassis. They were classy, blonde and expensive....unfortunately I didn't get on with any of them really, they were all designed by Bruce Zinky?, and to my ears were a bit bland tone wise, too heavy in the mid range and not 100% Fender sounding.....how these new amps sound will be interesting....personally in the higher price bracket I prefer the smaller boutique makers, Victoria, Lazy J, Carr, etc etc....

    "premium yellow coupling capacitors"

    "highly responsive chickenhead control knobs"

"all housed in a durable cabinet"

Who wrote this copy?! The teaboy?

I would go with a Gartone custom amp any day of the week at these prices and get an antique victorian pine cab, Mallory caps, Celestion Alnico, NOS valves and still have change.

Is it just me or does the wiring look a bit messy?

I'm no expert, but I've been advised by amp builders who are that neat wiring doesn't always mean the best tone/lowest noise. Carr amps are a good example - they can look like a controlled bomb site, but are apparently quite quiet and sound good.

Whereas some right angled/square wiring in the wrong place may help pick up noise.

Ah, finally! I missed the '57 deluxe the last time round and since it's only been 'EC' and 'The Edge' signature stuff.

What makes it 'Custom' though? Is it just a name to differentiate from the previous versions a few years back, ie the '57 Champ and '57 Deluxe? Except for the little badge, they otherwise look the same spec.

They've had a few tweaks, plus the addition of the Pro which is the first time that one has been reissued.

We've had a very small number arrive in Europe so you may see some pop up in a few shops this week.
This is not an official response.

@MattFGBI i've read elsewhere that the Deluxe has an alnico speaker (Fender branded Eminence). Is that correct?
