Just starting to sink in really. In September instead of going back to work I'll be writing my doctorate. How the hell I managed to get admitted to study under Jesus Huerta de Soto is beyond me but to say I'm chuffed is an understatement. The fact that I'll be 3 years in Madrid is also pretty cool as is my work allowing me to keep my partnership. An office in Mayfair to a uni in Madrid is a big change but I like that anyway. Now to improve my Spanish as I have to write a thesis in it.....

I hope to learn loads. De Soto wrote papers with Murray Rothbard which for an economistIs like a Christian studying under Jesus.... The Sabre is still a pipeline (someone buy my Maton and Morganez) but it will happen. But the sense of freedom feels amazing, especially as it is all funded by my London house's frankly ridiculous rent. You can get a 3 bed flat for 20,000 down here....

Main focus is crisis and change. Although that may well change as I learn more. I have a few ideas on bank regulation that would stop housing bubbles.

Limit mortgages to 4x salary and only pay bonuses once liabilities are cleared. Simplify regulation so it is understood and stop hiring monkeys on shit salaries to police Oxbridge PhDs would be a good start.

The village I'm currently staying in has 65% unemployment. Nothing that has happened inthe UK comes close to the sheer destruction of people's jobs and futures I can see here. 84% of the population believe the government is corrupt and even the unions are stealing money. Property booms are pretty toxic when they get this mental. And being in the Euro when devaluation is desperately needed is a killer.

The current government here is so bad even I would vote for las socialistas. When you see the depth of corruption the current Spanish pm is involved in then you start to think UK politicians are very clean indeed. At least in the UK if 84% of the population thought Cameron lied in parliament about something as basic as taking backhanders he'd resign.
