Amp Modeller Smackdown

What's Hot
TimmyOTimmyO Frets: 7552
So at Drinkies last night the suggestion came up to go a GearFest/GearJam but with modellers as the focus.

a Helix, a Fractal, a Kemper etc, but also some of the classic benchmark real amps, and to have some backline there too to put to bed any "...cut through in the band..." comments.

Who is interested in principle if such a thing were to be organised?
Red ones are better.

I'd like to see that for certain, but I it will be down to the location for most people.
Hint.. the west midlands would be a good place to hold it ;)

I would be happy to bring a Helix and a Cornell and plenty of flippant comments.

If it's near London I have a 69' super lead and a Matchless clone (w Westlab tranny) to bring along.

If you were paying for somewhere I'd probably suggest JJM in Walsall as the least shit rehearsal studio in the West Midlands,  their biggest room is decent (not huge but biggish) and they hold the odd event in there -  I think @thisisguitar has hired it,  if he's still around. Free cups of tea,  there's a chippy next door,   ten minutes from the M6 and free on street parking (although you might end up a couple of streets away).

I'm happy to bring an AxeFX and Matrix. If we can get the right room then I can also bring a Mackie pa so that we can compare modellers with mic'd amps

If it's in the midlands and I'm free I've got a kemper I'll chuck into the mix

    @EricTheWeary - It is a good choice, I know the owner and he's a good lad :-)

Also, if you guys want to put your modellers against traditional gear I can bring along a Friedman BE-100, '71 Silverface Twin and a Cornell Plexi 45/50 for comparison (subject to not being on a gig!).

I'd be up for this.  Obviously depending when and where it happens.

I can bring a Kemper with built in power amp and a Matrix FRFR cab.  I'd also bring the Kemper 'Remote' pedalboard.

This sounds excellent. If you could all bring the gear to Abu Dhabi I'm happy to host!

@stickyfiddle that sounds good!  If you would be good enough to charter the private jet and reserve us suites in the 7 star place in Dubai, I'm sure we'd all be up for this!

I think it might also be interesting to compare the modellers through a consistent amplification system too.

I have an almost-zero chance of attending, given my track record, but on the offchance that I do...I could bring a Kraken and a Digitech GSP1101. The Digitech's high-gain models are mostly balls, but the 5150 model is actually pretty damn good if anyone has one for comparison.

I'm watching this - I have nothing worth contributing (Mesa Express Combo anyone??)   but JJM is walking distance from home!!

Modelling, Schmodelling....who cares so long as you love your 5e3?

This sounds fun -- would love to come along but probably gigging.
But if able to attend I can bring along my main gigging amp these days:
I've parked the Marshall JVM and I've gone Solid State:
    Orange CR120.
Not modeller but a stand alone SS amp which I've (finally) fallen in love with.

I don't think this is really about which is better (and that'll vary by person and application anyway), more an opportunity to listen and compare.

I am not that near to Walsall, but with a bit of planning could probably do this at a weekend at the same time as some other stuff in Brum, and happy to chip in to any costs in hiring the room.  May even bring up my new / old 1958 Gibson Les Paul...
