    Apparently Mark Ker-Nopfler also once confided (to Snowy White) that he wished he'd written Brothers In Arms too.

    Fair point, I'd be pissed if I was snowy though, so I'll stick with the rip off haha

    Actually, it's one of those urban myths I've never quite managed to hear.....both are incredible pieces of playing

    @Gassage ;
     The similarities are so clear, there was a thread here not that long ago

    However, Mark et al took it to another level, imo.

    Both great songs!

    Some proper guitar playing, combined with out of this world percussion. Financially something like Thriller or Beat it. But for personal satisfaction something like this.....

    'One World' - John Martyn - truly beautiful....

    'The Downtown Lights' - The Blue Nile - just as beautiful....

    'Al Bowlly's in Heaven' - Richard Thompson - possibly the most poignant 'character' song ever....

    not a song just one line 'I spent friday night with a fly-by-night'... love it

    a whole song....if I had written all aspects of this song and also made the decision to make it the album opener, I would be pretty chuffed with myself...perfection

    Play it live as part of a wedding band and you watch the whole room turn into one big collective swoon....as your soul dies a little more inside.
