    A Christmas song...purely for royalties.
Yep. Plenty of one-hit-wonders and has-beens get a run out and a healthy royalty cheque once a year on the strength of some old tat with sleigh bells on it. No pressure for a follow-up, no need for a pesky career, just a single hit and the money comes rolling in year after year. What other bullshit pop records from the early 80s do you hear as often as "Last Christmas"? I wouldn't even want "White Christmas", I'd settle for Jonah Lewie or something.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

i can honestly say my songwriting output is somewhat sparse.

However, if you could have written one or two songs (not for royalty reasons) what would they have been?

    My choices:
Don't Dream It's Over- simply the most poignant perfect pop song ever written and when you see Finn perform it live you'll get goosebumps. It's just sublime,

Go Your Own Way- if I were Lindsey, I'd have finished that track and thought fuck me I just created a masterpiece. Simply one of the greatest hooks and harmonies ever written.

    What would your choices be?
    Tsk, remember folks....^

Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. Play that to most women and their fannies explode.
Play it live as part of a wedding band and you watch the whole room turn into one big collective swoon....as your soul dies a little more inside.
That's true Dave, but if there's a shag than can come out of it then I wouldn't mind!

not a song just one line 'I spent friday night with a fly-by-night'... love it

a whole song....if I had written all aspects of this song and also made the decision to make it the album opener, I would be pretty chuffed with myself...perfection

Just a shame Cubby Brocolli ruined it.

  • My initial thought was something like Candle in the wind, because it sold shitlods and the royalties would look after me for ages.

Good choice.  I remember David St Hubbins saying something like if you spend more than 10 minutes writing a song you're basically just jerking off.

The River - Brooce. Just a great song. Simple, poignant, and effective. Paints pictures in your head.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

Nice Shout @west Burt Bacarach was a fantastic songwriter

The arrangement with Dionne Warwick is my favourite though, even more than the man himself singing it.

Even though I like lots of categories, songs with a feel like that are the ones I'm most envious of, not just Bacarach ones either.
