Talk to me about treble boosters? Love the range masters but my bank account doesn't.

What works for you?

Not available anymore but home brew electronics used to do a nice one.

I've got an HBE Germania and a Thunder Tomate silicon TB.
The germania's very good at pushing your amp into singing sustain if that's your thing. The silicon TB has got a lot of range from thin to rich and bassy.
Don't bother using with a solid state amp. They'll sound horrible.

Likewise any clean, high headroom amps- Twins and suchlike. Not a good look.

@dodge makes a good suggestion- Rangemasters are very simple circuits so building one yourself is not a huge task, even for a beginner at DIY electronics.

The hard part would be finding a suitable germanium transistor since they're obsolete and notoriously inconsistent, but buying a kit should mean that the hard work would be done for you in that respect.

Image result for thunder tomate phil hillborne booster

It's one of these. I don't think they're still being made. Got mine secondhand quite a long time ago.
It's got loads of dip switches inside for varying amounts of bass.

I love the Catalinbread Naga Viper and the Cornish TB-83 Extra. They sound particularly good with P90's.

I built myself a D.A.M Red Rooster clone (it's a modified Rangemaster) and think it sounds great.
It's a very simple build, should you be into DIY.
My wife asked me to stop singing Wonderwall.
    I said maybe.....

Been using the HBE Germania. Really versatile. That said I'll be moving it on sooner rather than later. Give me a shout if you decide you want one.

I play guitar and take photos of stuff. I also like beans on toast.

I fancy having a crack at one of those. Any idea what sort of spec you need for the Ge tranny @lasermonkey ;? HfE range and whatnot? I bought a pair of AC187s for a Skreddy Screwdriver (only needed one but couldn't find anyone selling tested single ones) but I think they might be  bit underpowered...

Most people seem to plump for a hfe of around 100, but I can't for the life of me remember what I went with. Leakage should be low.
Apparently Dave Main biases them at 6.66v, but then he would!

Thanks. Mine have an HfE around 70, so might work... I'll socket it so I can keep it for something else if it doesn't do the business.
