Katana looks like the successor to the Cube range.  Like that they've got a head version this time EDIT: don't understand why it's more than the quivalent combo though .
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

I hope not - they're all too loud.

Releasing a head for £2300 and another that appears virtually identical for £320 doesn't seem like the best plan.
I dont think they actually expect to sell many of the big waza head. I think its a prestige thing. Release an "upmarket" solid state head to show "we really believe in solid state" then use it to market the smaller "waza influenced" ones.

Did I already do a "called it?" post???

Just makes you think... who the hell is in charge of product development? Where is the innovation, and are they even trying to have their finger on the pulse of the market?

  • I'm happy.
And that is the most cutting assessment of the new boss range. Happy competitor = epic fail.

They do seem to be doing everything to make themselves irrelevant - they are a tech company (within the grand scheme of guitar things) that can't seem to keep pace with the best guitar related tech, but are waaaay off the pace for either booteek (Waza, is that the best they can do) or middle-mainstream stuff (I.e. Blackstar etc).

  • For guitarists it looks underwhelming.
    It's not a competition.

  • The Katana 50 seems pretty cheap, £165 for a 50w 12" combo isn't bad at all.

Yeah they're being priced really aggressively.

  • It's hard to tell from just from the demos, but I find that any Roland / Boss distortions on their amps have this really strange thing happening in the upper mid EQ section that is very hard to dial out.  It's like a nasal sound and not very natural sounding.  Maybe the Katana amps won't have this....

  • Katana will be a winner i reckon, i hope it captures more of the old cube vibe rather than the new cub or shitty blues cubes.

Given the pricing, I think you might be right. £320-ish for the 100W head which everybody's been asking for is actually pretty decent, if not as low as it could be.

    Yeah I think it's a great price if it's a decent amp.

£320 makes it cheaper than the Blackstar ID TVP 100w head.

  • They should have released a PH1 waza pedal. Even I know that.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.
