I'm a little ashamed to say I can only really speak two. My mum was a French teacher but I wasn't interested in school and did as many science subjects as I could. I know enough French to have a go but I'd be out of my depth basically as soon as the other person replied. Shame really, as growing up fluent in two I had a big advantage in attempting a third. From a global viewpoint, people who grew up monoglot are very much in a minority, and they've missed out.
I got an A in GCSE Chinese, that was a LOT easier than the A in English lit/lang. Although, funnily enough the English exams do not involve speaking at all...
most of my family are fluent in English and Spanish
my granddad was fluent in English, Spanish and Hindi [he was born in India to a Scots dad and a Spanish mum]
