  • I did the opposite, sold both my Gibsons ( LP and a Nighthawk) and got two PRS.

I also struggle with LP's, I want to like them but the ergonomics aren't right for me and also tone wise, I guess I go for warmish amp and pedal sounds and then guitars that slice through with strident treble and not too much bass.

I think LP's sound best the the other way around - taming an inherently bright, even brittle sounding amp - such as a Marshall.

I think people over analyse it too much.

  • Also ergonomics for me, and I want to like them. I wouldn't trade a PRS for one.

I've always found LPs to be quite versatile actually. With a good set of splittable pickups you can cover a lot. Only thing you can't do is the proper out of phase strat sound which is just awful anyway.
    I agree with that.
George Benson played a 'Burst when he was much younger and  Al Di Meola plays a 50's Les Paul.
A great Les Paul can be a Jazz guitar.

I find strats harder to get on with. The volume knob too near the bridge is a killer, for me. The thing about the upper fret access on a LP wouldn't bother me, as I don't really go up there..

    Funny old game, eh...
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I've had a load of them- never lasted more than a few months.
I just don't get on with the ergonomics.

That said, I played a forumite's LP Jr a few weeks ago, which was lovely.

It's very easy to move a strats volume one down and just have a master tone and a volume.

Les pauls for me are beautiful and I'll always own one...but I do prefer the feel of my PRS or strats/superstrats. Did last weeks rehearsal with my Les Paul but kept missing my whammy lol

  • Real men love Les Pauls

Boys whine about the weight and 'ergonomics' what ever the f*ck that means.

When I first started playing, on a 1981 Tele, I never heard anyone in the local bands community belly aching about such nonsense, everyone thought a Gibson, especially a Les Paul, and even more so a Les Paul Custom was, as Joe Strummer sang 'a heart attack machine'

I thought we'd already established that it was the number of guitars that determined your manliness, no the style?

A good les paul is under 9lb
Most of mine are 8.5 to 8.7 and it makes a difference
    I just weighed a 70's tele, bloody 9lb for a flat slab

They are much more versatile than people give them credit for imo as long as they're lighter weight

    Just my opinion
