I think LP's sound best the the other way around - taming an inherently bright, even brittle sounding amp - such as a Marshall.
My YouTube Channel
George Benson played a 'Burst when he was much younger and Al Di Meola plays a 50's Les Paul.
A great Les Paul can be a Jazz guitar.
Funny old game, eh...
I just don't get on with the ergonomics.
That said, I played a forumite's LP Jr a few weeks ago, which was lovely.

Les pauls for me are beautiful and I'll always own one...but I do prefer the feel of my PRS or strats/superstrats. Did last weeks rehearsal with my Les Paul but kept missing my whammy lol
Boys whine about the weight and 'ergonomics' what ever the f*ck that means.
When I first started playing, on a 1981 Tele, I never heard anyone in the local bands community belly aching about such nonsense, everyone thought a Gibson, especially a Les Paul, and even more so a Les Paul Custom was, as Joe Strummer sang 'a heart attack machine'
Most of mine are 8.5 to 8.7 and it makes a difference
I just weighed a 70's tele, bloody 9lb for a flat slab
They are much more versatile than people give them credit for imo as long as they're lighter weight
Just my opinion
