It's my usual - calligraphy ink and ronseal hardglaze varnish, wiped on.  Having said that, they have changed the formulation of the latter to save the polar bears, which has caused me some issues.  I'm going to try Rustins polyurethane next time.  They also are saving the polar bears but I think the properties are closer to the original stuff.
