I was born an old man out of the womb.

I felt like a proper adult when I bought all matching cutlery and got rid of the glasses I stole from pubs when a student...

  • Not sure if I've ever really felt like a proper adult yet.

I'm (only?) 29 but have just started divorce procedings; we'd been together 12 years but had grown apart in the last few and I no longer felt we could fix it. Still, as of this week I have a new place - first time living on my own too, and I've joined a gym to keep me busy and work on my lungs and general fitness.

Leaving wasn't easy, but it felt like the right thing to do, and in that it's possibly the first critical adult decision I've made.

Right, it wasn't easy; however here we are.

I had to replace the mounting box as it wasn't deep enough.

Yes it does.  Properly too. That time I spent studying electrical and electronic engineering was not entirely wasted.

The dimmer switch in our sitting room causes hum in my study upstairs.

Are you sure that you haven't got a gang of bees up there?

No, it's the dimmer switch (only when switched on obviously). It took a while to work out what the loud annoying buzz coming out of my amp was, but after a little trial and error the downstairs dimmer switch was the culprit.
