Winter in England?

What's Hot
I'm not a big fan of the English winter, I don't like the cold (or cool as we get now), don't like wet grey shorter days.

Apart from there being no flies in the house, which is the biggest downside of an English summer for me, what are the upsides for an English winter in your view?

  • I live in Wales so I don't give much of a shit about the English winter, unless I have a gig in Sheffield and have to cross the Snake Pass!

One of the few things I do like about winter is the watching the birds on the bird feeder in the garden, we get quite a lot of different birds and make sure we put plenty of feed out. We feed the deer as well, throw chopped carrots and parsnips over the hedge for them daily.

We should have tighter border controls

Today and Wednesday were both lovely. Clear blue skies, really cold, very crisp. I got to wear my new hat. What's not to like?

OK, but you can have Wrexham on your side.

Clear skies, but they seem to be a thing of the past.

Drifting the transit on leaves.  Drifting the Transit on snow.

Wrapping up warm and not getting sweaty.  I also like wearing hats.

Things stop growing so people stop panicking and generally leave you alone without the phone going off the hook, so you can work on the built stuff and planned stuff.

Log fires.  There is also a lot not to like but it's same same really.

I especially like the way it turns everyone miserable and the way people always forget how to cope with it, it's usually the same types who go troppo when  the mercury hits plus 18C temperatures in summer

  •  - not needing blackout blinds to get the kids in bed
    - not overheating playing football
    - cold and sunny is the perfect weather for me, England is beautiful like this
    - that feeling of hunkering down when you're at home for the evening and the weather outside is horrible
    - band rehearsals without sweating like a pig
    - lots of time stuck inside to play guitar

Yeah but you get longer daylight hours in the summer, although granted it's still only 12C outdoors.

No such thing as bad weather. Just inappropriate clothing!

  • Good running weather, especially for a lunchtime at work. Much better chance of cooling down afterwards. My hands suffer though, to the extent that a default birthday and xmas present is L'Occitane shea butter hand cream.
