I'm 2/3 of the way through Jack Glass - Adam Roberts, one of my ever-increasing pile of Sci-Fi books.

I went to a sale at the town Central Library this morning and picked up 15 books for me and one for my daughter.

Ursula Le Guin - The Left Hand Of Darkness
Kevin J Anderson - A Forest Of Stars / The Ashes Of Worlds
Robert J Sawyer - Red Planet Blues
    John Scalzi - Lock In
Paul McAuley - Gardens Of The Sun
    Greg Egan - Zendegi
David I Mason - The Caltraps Of Time
Ray Bradbury - Something Wicked This Way Comes
    James S A Corey - Cibola Burn / Abaddon's Gate
    Tony Mitton - The Somethingosaur
    Iain Banks - The Quarry
    Christopher Brookmyre - Flesh Wounds
John Le Carré - Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy / A Perfect Spy

The whole lot cost me £3.25, which was nice.

I preferred the film actually. The tone of the writing in the book just didn't work for me. It wasn't bad, but I didn't think "wow" or anything..

I read all the Hunger games books

    And a bit of Nietzsche.

Just finished this. A bizarre combination of 70's car crashes and sex. Well, more like 70's car crashes and sex being used as some kinds of mutual metaphors. A harsh, in your face, read, but worth it.

Now reading Atlas Shrugged, which looks like it will take about a year!

    Jaws - Peter Benchley

A little disappointing. I got the impression he ran out of time and rushed the ending.

  • Johnny Marr's autobiography,  which is a really easy and enjoyable read. He's got a very conversational style which suits me just fine. I read Morrissey's autobiography last year which was like wading through treacle.

Abomination by Gary Whitta. Bought on the recommendation of someone in this thread. I'm about 50 pages in, it's ok so far, not quite what I was expecting though. The blurb on the back cover says "Game of Thrones meets HP Lovecraft". I reckon that's about right.

"Never Let Me Go" (K. Ishiguro). Read his "When We Were Orphans" nearly 10 years back and it blew me away. This one seems to be riveting as well. Has anybody read "The Girl On The Train" I felt like having a go at it but couldn't find it. Is it really that good?

Eat Stop Eat.  A book about intermittent fasting and the science behind it (although I've not checked the linked studies as I go).   Interesting but essentially the book can be condensed as follows:-

Don't eat for 2 x 24 hour non consecutive periods every week.  Undertake 3 sessions of resistance training every week.  Eat at least 100 grams of protein on non fast days.  Eat what you want on non fast days, but don't go mad on the Krispy Krèmes.

The claim,  fasting for short periods :-</p>

    • Increases Insulin Sensitivity
    • Increases lipolysis and fat oxidation
    • Increases autophagy
    • Increases levels of Growth Hormone
    • Decreases body fat

I'm trying it for a few months, so I'll start a thread after a reasonable period of time and see how it goes.  No particular aim, I'm not overweight, but I'll be measuring body fat.

Definitely need a novel after this one.....

Just finished Four Days in November by Vincent Bugliosi, about the JFK and Oswald murders. Recommended by @ICBM I believe. Found it very interesting and it puts a lot of the grassy knoll and magic bullet conspiracy theories to bed.

Just finished Lonely Boy. Great read, even if quite disturbing in places. Really mixed-up childhood which despite his best efforts really seems to have screwed up the rest of his life.

  • The Sinking of the Lancastria by Jonathon Fenby.

Bit of a red letter day for me - finishing an entire book. Wasn't that long but no pictures.

I have been meaning to read this for years, it's what my father became very interested in trying to find out more about what his father went through, who was one of the survivors.
