The next build on "the Lion blanket" is this one - which should be ready for a photoshoot tomorrow (pending fret dress and setup). After which, there are a few new (and secret) builds that I'll be working on over the next few weeks so things will go quite quiet during that time... All will be revealed!
Ready for your viewing pleasure...
A couple more photos of the Ziricote-top DC...
Thanks Winny-Pooh, always nice to read positive comments.
I like the non-pore filled finish, and I've gone for about 14 coats in total on this one. The secret to that smooth, gloss/semi-gloss finish is a couple of very thin (as in watered down) coats at the end. 50:50 Tru-Oil to spirits is about right. Wipe on wet and it levels itself out nicely.
Thanks Carlos
You're welcome, well deserved.
By the way, this is one of the nicest colours I've ever seen on an s-type guitar. Are these simpler models cheaper than the wood goodness you've been showcasing in this thread?
It is a great colour, isn't it... Much better than the Neon Pink originally sprayed.
These will normally come in a little less expensive than the natural finish guitars... Especially when there's wood such as Ziricote and Buckeye Burl involved.
Thanks again for your positive words
January 2019 - Been having a moment or two these past few weeks. I tried to re-establish my presence on the forum and failed but now I'm successfully bringing things back to order. Most of the image links have been updated so these older threads no longer look bare and miserable.
I am in the process of updating my more recent threads - including a 2019 "10th year anniversary“ build thread - and will post when done
Editing my old threads and repairing broken links Check out the 2017-18 thread here: http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/107764/kemp-guitars-2017-2018-build-thread/p1
Both of those had Tru-Oil finishes. The Wenge carve-top was grain filled (wet sanding with Tru-Oil) and the Ziricote left open grain.
