Spotify......kindly educate me

What's Hot
I've seen and heard it mentioned a lot and I quite fancy it as I'm always on the lookout for new music. Apparently there's a premium version too, so how much is that and is it worth handing over a few quid for?

Thanks in advance chaps :)

£5 a month for the version which just runs off your wi fi.
    Absolutely brilliant.
    No ads.  Super reliable.

    +1

We pay for the premium version to avoid the ads. The premium version also allows you to download content (the free version is streaming only so only works when you've got WiFi working).

Plenty of content, plus it will suggest other stuff you may like.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

It's awesome. Best tenner a month you can spend IMO.

Sadly I'm forced into using the vastly inferior Apple Music because Spotify is shit with CarPlay and the car is where I listen to the most music :(

  • I took the 3 months free Apple Music in November, have used it a handful of times nowhere near as good as Spotify Prem.

Some will call you Beelzebub for using it due to low pay per play value, but I say bollocks to that. I use it and love that people can access my band's stuff on there anytime for such a low cost.

Until a better solution comes along it's the best option for consumer and artist.

By the way, I did like Tidal but it was very glitchy, double the cost and lots of albums I love are missing in their library.

    They're doing 3 months for £9.99 https://www.spotify.com/us/purchase/panel/?comeback=1#__main-pci-credit-card

    There's a 99p offer as well, but I can't find the link.
    EDIT here's the 99p Link https://www.spotify.com/uk/intro/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=360ispotify|en|brand-text|all|google|sem|core|bmm&utm_content=growth_paid&utm_term=43700014444708092_c

I used it quite a lot, listening now to the blues "radio station" it's great. can control the music coming out of my hifi with the phone app.

Is there still only one skin for Spotify?
I remember ages ago they changed it to something so dark it became difficult to use so I'm still using an old version and a script which blocks it from updating.

  • It's great for the consumer. Not so good for the artist. I use the free version from time to time and bought CDs as a result of liking what I've heard.

    This. Highly recommended.

Spotify are a bit sneaky with music they don't hold. E.g. If you search for Keith Jarrett they list the Koln concert but they don't actually have it available to stream.

Either that or I am doing something wrong !

  • I have ( Google) Play Music on my phone, which I know nothing about but my son pays for it and I have it as a freebie. Been a while since I used Spotify but I struggled to find things I wanted, not had that issue with Play as much. I don't think it's as good at suggesting things as Spotify, still no Koln Concert though...

  • Best money I have ever spent. Also use it as a research tool for finding new artists for my country show. Can't fault it.
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • Use the free version. It allows you 2 weeks out of area streaming at a time too. Handy if you travel - though slightly annoying if you travel for more than 2 weeks, which is how I found out. Non the less I've built play lists that'll keep me going for years. Good stuff. Don't expect any Taylor Swift on there though... She pulled it off. - The music.

  • Lots of talk of what bad value it is for the artists, but if you listen to a song as many times as I've listened to some of the songs on some of my CD's and divide the £x I spent for the CD by the number of tracks, then again by the number of times I've listened to each track, you're probably getting less than from Spotify
