I don't consider myself particularly foul-mouthed, but I clearly need to mind my words a bit more around the house:

Tucking my kids into bed tonight, my four year old gave me the sweetest doe-eyed smile and said "Oh daddy, you really are a bloody dammit."

Possibly not the proudest moment in my parenting career ...

  • That's nothing. My daughter swears like a sailor. I've no idea where the fuck she gets it from...

  • My neighbours kid sometimes says either "ferfucksake" or "awfuckit" (treated as one word each) when she drops something. It's hilariously incongruous as she's a really cute wee moppet...

The problem is she says them in a strong Scots accent and the mum is American. The dad caught it rough for that one.  ;)

I had to create a child friendly playlist after I caught my (then) 2year old singing along to Killing in the Name- word perfect!  :o

Dont react to it by the way- it becomes a game and you do NOT want that to happen!

If by chance it turns to "Oh daddy, you really are a "f***ing a***hole", then Iook to the missus.

No need to worry until she calls her favourite teacher a cuntpuffin.

    Wonderful :)

If I ever have kids I have resolved to teach them proper old-school English for just the occasional word - I don't think hearing "Daddy - Behold!!" when out and about would ever get old.

We've caught out 3 year old saying Scheisse. We don't speak German around the house and only read books to her so I guess she got it from another kid at playgroup. Best to ignore it.

more worrying is the occasional snippet of argument that she repeats and the acting out of them with her dolls.

I only remember swearing in front of my daughter (now 9) once.

She was about 4 at the time, we had just had sunday lunch in a very busy pub and she was messing around when I wanted to leave. Me getting more and more wound up pulls her close and says very sternly into her ear "will you put your f****ing coat on". She, at the top of her voice replied "it's not a f***ing coat it's an ordinary coat."

When I was a kid about, my two brothers started fighting at the table and ended up breaking a chair, at which my dad swore at them.

I apparently ran through to the kitchen, and broadcast to my mum and her friend, that "They've broke the f***ing chair". My mum didn't know what to do, but her friend erupted in laughter.

My bro in law has lived out in the US for a long time and used English swear words in front of his kids when they were little, thinking the locals wouldn't suss that they were rude. He got called into his daughter's school one day as one of the teachers had looked up what "wanker" meant. He explained, on the hoof, that what his daughter was actually saying was "oinker", and it was Ye Olde Englishe term of affection. To this day everyone in the family says "oi, you oinker" if you want to insult them.
