Why are are vets so bloody expensive?

Some aren't. Our vets have just become the third in the country to get the top ratings in all five categories from the RCVS, but our vet bills have never been lower (they don't put a markup on medication, and their rates are surprisingly low).

When Ruby had her accident, they (two vets and a nurse) spent a whole morning ringing round everywhere in the country with MRI facilities until they found us a good one and negotiated them down to a reasonable cost on our behalf. Quite honestly, I wouldn't ever use another vet now, unless it was a referral from them.

Mind you, it's a bit of a geographical lottery. Before them, we'd spent years being gouged (and our pets were over-diagnosed) by the vets in town. Turns out we only had to go a few miles out of town for much better service and prices.

Winnie is under the knife as we speak.

Her new knee, or TPLO surgery....

It'll ruin her cricket as it's her landing leg when she bowls.....

I suspect she'll be military medium pace until she heals, then back to her long run with the new ball.....

Been there many times with our dogs and waiting for news from the vet never gets easier, so I know how it feels

It's funny isn't it - they seem quite aware of what's happened and that the inconvenience was to make them better.. 

Except when our lab got the snip - he sulked for 48 hours and was proper pissed at us...

My dog sulked for a week when i took her in to be done.
