To celebrate my new job (and it's something I've been thinking about for a while) I want to get a new wrist watch.
I don't really want to spend more than £200, 300 at a push. I have a few watches, but nothing super expensive
- a Citizen chronograph
- A Gshock
- Some huge divers thing
- a casio wave ceptor
- a cheap casio digital watch
Nothing wrong with any of those watches, the wave ceptor is a bit annoying as if you press the wrong button (instead of the light) the dual time zones send the hands spinning around.
So now's the time for me to step things up a bit. I've been very frugal in the last few months for obvious reasons. So now I'm after something a bit nice.
I bought my father a Seiko sea urchin watch (rolex lookalike) as a present for getting over his anemia. I have to admit it's a lovely watch.
So I'm looking for
- Something I can easily read the time on when I'm in the cinema
- No chronographs
- Analogue movement
- Day and date display.
I'm strongly drawn to a Seiko SKX009. I didnt know if it was worth going for an older refurbished model on Ebay (6309,7002) as I don't know anything about them. Again I assume the higher the jewels the better the watch? I have fairly small wrists so I don't want anything too large. But open to suggestions. Ideally something that I can wear with a suit and with a T shirt etc.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

(Actually maybe that's a plus for the SNK not a minus for the SKX, as it's a perfectly good movement).
Do take a look at a Steinhart Ocean 1. A rather knowledgeable friend says they can't be beat in the price range.
This is the one I got, although it doesn't have the day displayed.
I'm also a big fan of Hamiltons. I have the Khaki Auto 40mm with leather and steel straps. But completely understand if you want more of the dive thing.

Also Creation watches have been flawless for anything I've bought from them.
Nothing wrong with the movement in the SKX or SNZF, the SKX will have better water resistance (screw-in crown) but I think the movements are the same. For the first year or so, my SNZF "Sea Urchin" gained 3-4 seconds a day! It's not as good as that now, maybe losing 10-20 seconds - still very impressive for a £140 watch.
Seiko recently introduced a new model (Turtle) with a hacking/hand winding movement, but they're more like £400.
Oh, and the RRP is above £300 - but it may be possible to get it in budget if you shop around.

I regulated the one in mine a bit and it's within 5s a day pretty much always.
I like the 007, it's a bit more dress-uppable than a Pepsi IMO. Heard good things about Creation... go get the one you fancy!
Edit- Thanks for all of your help by the way
I recently got a new leather one that's blue and looks nice, but I've no idea how long it'll last. The one that came with my watch (a citizen eco drive - lower model, but lovely looking) got wrecked after about 8 months

Seem like good quality, nice designs and reasonably priced.
