I think I've said before, I did have 4 x 6ft banners say Acoustics Upstairs, I put it on here too and on Facebook, not sure what else I could do really, I guess it will take time

    Glad you enjoyed it

    J

If you do get a floor plan sorted and a list of vendors with their stand numbers then people will instantly see there's an acoustic room and will probably instead be walking around going "where's the stairs?" - which is a step in the right direction :)
I bet you a free ticket to the show, that someone with a plan in their hand says they didn't know :)

    I don't like those odds ;)

I went to the show for the first time on Sunday and was surprised at how busy it was.  I'd agree that by lunchtime it was quite crowded but you could still get round all the stands OK.  It was great to see a decent mix of specialist guitar makers alongside the established brands - well OK, Fender and PRS but not Gibson.
Like many people I was really impressed by the Rob Williams stand.  He's a genuinely good bloke who makes absolutely stunning guitars.  Mine is now on order so can't wait until it's ready in the summer!
Yes parking was a pain so perhaps a bigger venue next year would be the answer and having a smaller equivalent to NAMM would be a great idea to showcase all that's new.

Put the stand prices up...and the ticket prices down   ;)
Free entry to an empty hall :)
LIMS all over again. It was cheaper to do the entire Musikmesse inc travel and hotels and beer than just the space at the last Excel LIMS.

The biggest (and probably cheapest) improvement for me would be to provide seating for the audience at the Live Stage.  If the stage could also be a little higher, 'twould be a bonus. Consider the audience - let them see the performers and speakers (people, not CABs! )

Doesn't need a bigger venue, just the ability to use the car park behind the venue. If Jason could do a deal for that, it would solve a hell of a lot of problems.

The main issue was people on stands who thought they were playing a gig; the two guys opposite the Griffin Amps stand were particularly irritating. One was playing slap bass the other guitar and they endlessly jammed funk on two chords, very loud, more it seems to show what great players they were rather than demonstrating any gear. They also seemed very pleased with themselves!

This is the main reason i wont go to guitar shows...at the end of the day i think most people go because they want to see gear that they normaly cant see in shops not to see people trying to out play each other which seems to be the case a lot of the time...i mean iff doing a guitar demo try different pickup combinations ..clean..gain ...vol ..tone ect to get some varied sounds not just play a million notes a second ....same with amps ..maybe demo the amp and not the playing ...sometimes i think the public are a bit unwilling to approach and ask about products in fear of...err interupting the concert....

My fault, I never really thought it would be an issue, I thought it was a bit more rock n roll to have standing, then again I'm 6ft 2" I can pretty much see all the time

Surely seating for some, and a bit of rock n roll for others???

See previous comments about mini NAMMs, its not what you have been told it is and its not cost effective in the UK. NAMMs main success is being in California, as a brummie no matter how I spin it, California it ain't. But the food is a hell of a lot better, trust me, the food is so bad at NAMM I didn't eat during the day.

You get pretty much all the new guitar stuff anyway, the dateline was chosen because it follows the US launches. The rest of NAMM is drums, keyboards, flutes, trumpets, cello, piano, tech and a big hall full of un-sellable weird stuff.

And yes, Rob is a top fella who makes some stunning guitars.

Oh and its about $100 for a ticket, and you can't park anywhere near it - I mean like miles away, not 400 yards up the road

Maybe, a big screen and a video camera?

Second time going to the show - last time was I think 4 years ago.

Compared with what I can remember, it was a lot quieter. I was told about the acoustic hall upstairs :) but then I had the intention of checking out acoustic guitars, so it was on my radar. Plus I'd read on here that there was a separate acoustic room. Quiet times were a blessing.

Am am I the only one who thought the live stage was unnecessarily loud and also way too bass heavy? It was ironically the only time I put earplugs in, for the (still excellent) Helix demo. It did show off the RF PA speakers well but it was a tiny marquee, not a stadium! (Rant over!)

Food was excellent and fantastic value, plus cheap tea/coffee is good to see. Extra food seating might be nice, but I don't know where you'd put it.

All in all I was well impressed, I think it's an unfortunate inevitability that there will be a few fret-wanking numpties, which will mean I won't hang around whatever stand they're on, but what can you do? On the plus side I got a good deal on a Helix!

Cheers @Jason on a great job well done, and for the opportunity of discovering Turnstone guitars...if I could just sell my soul for five grand...!

Yeah thats kinda out of my price range - hiring a screen, camera, camera man, and a live mixer would cost thousands

Thank you, I will talk to Lez and get him to turn down, Dean from RCF did say that Lez won't be happy until I have a mini festival attached, nothing is ever big enough or loud enough, in the best possible way

  • @Jason , why don't you let your sound guy just run it as his own gig.  I think that you'd sell a lot of tickets if you promote the Lez Fest.

I see what you did there - NO!

All the talk in another discussion is about how do we get more players, we basically ignore 50% of the population, we could double the number of players if we de-dicked the industry a little. Thats why I had Mary Spender and JoanOvArk. I could double the attendance.

    :)
