  • That reminds me... My Insatiable One............. a great example of Butlers combined rhythm/lead style. Simply brilliant.

This collection of off-cuts is my favourite Suede album .....

Absolutely superb collection - Suede's B-sides were pretty peerless.

Certainly a million times better than their two following studio albums (the disappointing Head Music and A New Morning).

Two great albums since their comeback though! :)

An all time favourite of mine, superb band.

Good to see I'm not the only Suede fan on the forum! Lullabies is excellent, though the last few tracks signal the decline into their duff period IMHO. Anyone play their stuff at the moment, or is it more of a band you used to try to replicate?

This thread has made me make a mental note to tune down one of my guitars a semitone this weekend and play some Suede :)

Good plan. I will be doing the same. Still trying to nail We Are The Pigs, and might try My Insatiable One thanks to that vid earlier...

  • This thread reminded me how much I used to love Suede.  So I suggested 'We Are The Pigs' to my bandmates, and we ran through it at rehearsal tonight.  Great song - really enjoyed playing it again.

Great to play, isn't it? What pedals did you use for it? I learned 'He's Dead' last night - another cracker to play. Nice, spidery guitar lines in that.

    I'm still experimenting, but
    • TC HoF, Hall mode, always on
    • Hardwire CR-7, Analog mode, for intro / clean parts
    • Snouse Black Box 2, for dirty parts

What gets you the lead tone?  I always remember being impressed by how the sweet lead tone on the guitar cuts through the mix on the recording.

I think I was using the left side of my VS-XO (which is based on a Nobels ODR-1 circuit), stacked into the Snouse.  But as I said, we only played it once and I need to experiment a bit more.

I was using a RAT, followed by a Tubescreamer as a boost. Can't quite find the right balance of distortion and filter on the RAT for it though. Anyone found the right levels on a RAT for Butler sounds? I realise though that he used multiple RATs...
