(Actually I'm not a big fan of the Barrett stuff, but I much prefer it to anything post-Waters.)

    Requests!

My Morning Jacket would be appreciated.

I've also just discovered www.besteveralbums.com which seems to do this sort of this as its main function. Judging from their best of 2014 list it's a bit hipster but looks a good site for a hefty bit of procrastination.

    Elvis Presley
     The Essential,
Rock and roll no2 (there was no No 1) plays blues, country, rock and roll, ballads, first proper album. What it was all about.
Elvis is back, straight out of the army, can he still cut, oh yes he can, his vocal range had increased, and during out takes you can really hear him take charge of the sessions.
From Memphis to Vegas, from Vegas to Memphis, a double album, one part live from his first live work in 9 years and with a hot new Band led by James Burton, it was so raw and aggressive,he was possibly at his peak. The other part was songs recently recorded in Memphis with Chips Moman at American studios, with In the ghetto, Suspicious Minds etc.

     Good
Gold records vol 1-2-3-4 King Creole soundtrack Loving You soundtrack. Elvis Onstage 1970

    Fans only.
60's film soundtracks, Most of the 70's studio albums, odd song was good but on the whole tired and forgettable.

  • SLAYER

    Essential
Reign in Blood - The best metal album ever recorded bar none
South of Heaven - Very good
Hell Awaits - Proto-scary Venom influenced thrash metal

    Good
Seasons in the Abyss - Some great tracks, some filler
Divine Intervention - Start of a fairly consistent decline

    Fans Only
    Show No Mercy
World Painted Blood - Probably their best since Divine I.

    Avoid
Christ Illusion - Boring Slayer by numbers
God Hates Us All - Terrible nu-metal stylings

    Camel

Classics: Mirage, Snow Goose, Stationary Traveller, Never Let Go

Good:      Camel, Moonmadness, I can see your house from here, Rajaz, Harbour of Tears, Breathless, Rain Dances, Nude,
The Single Factor, Dust and Dreams, On The Road 1981, Coming Of Age, The Paris Collection, Pressure Points

For fans:   A nod and a wink, A Live Record, Gods Of Light, On The Road 1972, The Snow Goose remake

TBH I think they're all well good in their own way, but for anyone wanting to get into Camel, this is the way I'd recommend doing it. The above are EllPee/CeeDee titles. There are quite a few DeeVeeDees around too of live performances

I have a good many Camel records, but the one that I enjoy/play the most is a Nod and a Wink. Worth buying just for For Today, which is my favourite Camel track, despite many other classics. It's a healthy 10min 45sec long and with some sublimely soulful soloing in a style that nod's heavily to Gilmour.

He was deleted for saying Divine Intervention was better than Show No mercy.

Oh and Reign In blood is not even the best thrash album of 1986

    I'll do mine.

    Zappa:

    .....er,
    um,

Just dive in, if you don't like it, it's you that got it wrong. Keep trying.

But on the Camel side of things, I'd have to put Rain Dances on the 'must have' list.

The More Things Change is by far my favorite Machine Head album. I'd have the that and Burn My Eyes as the essentials.

I was going to include them but then I would need to include the Leaders Not Followers albums and the numerous split EPs and what not. I just listed the LPs for my own sanity.
