    Tough one.
I've went from being a manager in the same environment I'd been in for 20 years and gotten SO tired of - but working with people I consider as family - to taking a senior sales position where I work from home and travel a lot and stay in hotels.

    Income? Better.
    Potential for growth? Absolutely.
Seeing a bit of the world? You betcha.
Happy? Not as much as thought I'd be.

I'd say I used to be an 8 but I dropped to a 2 during the initial changeover.
I'm now around 6.5. When I make target as set by my boss I'll be 7.5.
Sure, I'm on more money and I make my own hours but I miss working with my gang. Sales is such a solitary career.

    About a 1/10.

Pay does not reflect workload, expectations or stress, poor management, poor staffing, low morale, terrible support in place for anyone who needs it.

  • I left my job as the MD of an affordable housing development company on the 30th June to spend more time with my wife who has cancer.  I did enjoy the job and will be doing some consultancy work in that field so 9/10 for that... however for the next few weeks my income will be from the odd gig or two so I can finally say I am a "professional musician"!  10/10 despite the pay being derisory.

The best job I had for enjoyment was when I worked at a plant hire company. The money was shite, but I used to go home with my sides aching, I'd never laughed so much. Because of that, I stuck it out for two years before I got a different job and doubled my salary overnight. Shit, it still miss those old times, though.

    10.

I got a job in Gibson's QC Checkout department. I sit about getting stoned, playing xbox and eating nachos for 10 hours a day. It's a bit noisy as there are guitars constantly going past on a conveyor, but they are all boxed up when I see them, so there is nothing to check.

Guy who runs the company is a Grade A stroker, but he's not interested in quality, so I never see him.

It's loads better than my previous role as head of product development at Marshall. I was way out of my depth. I was there from 1972 to 2016 and aside from designing a Zippo lighter engraved with our logo, I didn't have a single decent idea.

Have you considered a career in politics?

Kudos to the guy who had the balls to disclose his salary!

Mine varies - I think it's incredibly difficult work.
Fortunately I'm in one of the few companies that doesn't crack the whip AS much - but that's changing.
Good people, family-ish atmosphere, nice office, listen to Spotify most of the day whilst working.
I design integrated circuits - nowadays it's mostly automotive grade brushless d.c. motor drivers for major car manufacturers.

    Let's all disclose lol.
I've not a problem with it... unless somebody in my office finds out :)

  • All over the scale at the moment. Working my notice has given me some ease about the job (okay, if not about the future) that's maybe bumped it up slightly.
The bigger picture of having helped people is good, the smaller picture of having to resolve stupid arguments over car parking spaces and implement fuckwitted senior management decisions not so good.
Still, if anyone wants a lengthy diatribe on the downside of privatising public sector work I can now do that at length with examples...
I'd happily contribute to said diatribe..... Whats the working future hold for you then Eric?

I hated my previous job as an IT consultant specialising in corporate software. 18 month projects stick in a hotel miles from home. The same politics whatever the project. Dwindling expense allowance till it got to the point you had to choose between a drink or a meal, and depending on the hotel getting a meal under the limit could be hard. Now I work in pre-sales selling infrastructure, I work from home a lot of the time researching and coming up with solutions. Travel around Europe/Middle East and hopefully Africa soon and out in the states quite often. I make up my own hours obviously meetings/calls can be sprung on you at any minute. And I got a 20% pay rise with the move and bonuses actually get paid.

Four....time for a new job. I like the people I work with. I've just never worked for such a badly run company. Staggeringly bad.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

I've just handed in my notice for my day job which I would give a 3/10 to. Ridiculous commute (95min train journey), not learned anything in ages and middle management is tedious to put it politely.

Starting new job in 2 weeks, 5 min drive, more money, and I'll be home by 4:30pm. Can't wait.

My own business is the photography which I love. Do that on the weekend and takes me all over. I give that 9/10. Docking a point because things are a little quiet this year. Hopefully pick up next year when I spend more time (which j will have) on PR and social media.

Guys, money is not the be-all and end-all of a job.
I found out the hard way if you go home knackered and fed up of bullshit, then it's time to change jobs.

In my own case, I had to change for my own mental health, going home angry every night was really fucking me (as a person) up.

Good day 8, bad day 1, typically 5.
Getting worse rather than better of late, I'm at the "It's probably time to change" stage.

10 - even the frustrations are rewarding as new challenges to overcome. Lots of internal politics to faff around with, but again - that (mostly) keeps it interesting. Aiming to stay at this place for the next few years at the very least. :)

Career wise, it's a 9. Current role though is an arseache in a poorly led company so a 4, but I'll seek to change this soon.
