Aside from the mobius, what is the most versatile modulation pedal?

Nux mod core suits me. Small, cheap and has flanger, tremolo, vibe which all sound fine to me plus much more . . Chorus, phaser, rotary, pan.

    MM4 or H9. ;-)

I play guitar and take photos of stuff. I also like beans on toast.

  • Zoom MS70CDR. Vastly more cost-effective than any of the others, too.

I couldn't get on with the high pitched hum my 100bt and 50g gave off so one is on the shelf and the other out the door

Not had either of those, but the MS70CDR I had was spot-on. Even worked in the loop of my Jet City, and not many pedals can say that.

If you favour knobs over programmability, then the Keeley Super Mod Workstation.

Yeah I do remember the MS70 having a bit of a high pitch whine that didn't go away with any of my PSU's. It didn't bother me all that much.

Drew-what are the must haves and the not so bothered abouts?

Phaser tends to be a staple. I usually have two settings, a slow sweep and a fast 'faux-leslie' sort of sound, although thinking about it I don't use that second sound on any of the 3rd album material.

But I want to experiment with other sounds - no particular requirements there though.

I had the acoustic pre (A3) and it had something similar.  I couldn't deal with it so returned it.  Wonder why it happens

Poor circuit design I guess. Power circuit being too close to the AD/DA or something.

FWIW I have a G3 and MS70 on my board, used with a Decibel 11 Hot Stone Deluxe power supply, and there is no whine or hum at all.

Checkout this video I did for the MS70:

The first few seconds before I start playing guitar. Turn up the volume. Notice the noise and pitchy noise?? Then notice how it goes away when I engage the noise-gate?? That's how those pedals sound with humbuckers into a clean amp. It's not the amp generating the noise because the noise-gate would have no effect otherwise. It's definitely the pedal.
