Fuzz

What's Hot

I need some fuzz in my life... never really been a huge fuzz guy, though I did have a lunar module clone for a while, which was lovely. Got a F airfield Circuitry 4-eyes but it's not a typical fuzz.

Just watched the TPS video, but what's your favorite?

any without 3pdt switches?

I love the EQD Dirt Transmitter. The bias knob makes it pretty versatile

Controls input impedance, can deal with passive pickups all the way up to line level.  A really useful control as it makes it less picky about what you use it with.

  • I find my Burford fuzz to be quite versatile, I think there are various circuits very similar though. Basically anything with a mid control, bass switch and bias knob, as well as level and fuzz.
Some folks like water, some folks like wine.

On guitar my favourite fuzz is the Guitarsystems Fuzztool Jnr

The vods on YT are pretty good, but none show it cranked to the max. It has a "TMF" control which is a reactive tone that seems to do something to the type of saturation too.

    I love it. It's stunning.

  • Seek out the @Magnetic_Effects White Atom as recommended to me by @CustomPedalBoards. It's a superb sounding box which is a hybrid silicon/germanium fuzz. As well as your standard gain, volume and tone, there is also a "texture" mix which can give a full on roar to a nasty spitting effect as it starves the voltage from the pedal. I was never really a fan of fuzz until I got one of these.

Here's your obligatory Andy from PGS demo:

I think it depends what "family" of fuzz you like. I've tried to get on with muffs but much prefer the fuzz-face & tonebender styles as I like how they clean up when you roll back the volume on the guitar. Also, I find that they can work with either a clean or dirty amp whereas in my experience, muff-style fuzzes need a clean amp and don't have the same dynamic control.

Having said all of that, my current fave is a Mojo Hand Crosstown - it has a really flexible set of controls that can get close to the tones of many of the other fuzzes I've been through (and it's quite a few...)

Having settled on the Mojo Hand, I'm about to put a few up for sale, starting with a Monsterpiece BC108 NPN fuzz and a J Rocket WTF

Any decent clone of it will do
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Dunlop JH-F1 and Fuzz Factory cover all my fuzzy requirements.
Although probably not at the same time.

I just wish Proguitarshop would stop trying to sell me a Carcosa. It's getting boring.

I couldn't recommend it more. I can sit and mess with the bias and gain knobs for ages - there's so much to be had from it. It cleans up pretty nicely too.

Loosly based on a fuzz face I think

    any without 3pdt switches?
Boss FZ-2, FZ-3 or FZ-5 (I didn't like the 5, and prefer the 2 to the 3) or Zoom Ultra Fuzz.

If I could only have one it would be the FZ-2.

I've recently built a DbA Fuzz War clone and it's the perfect fuzz for me. I set my amp for a low-mid gain sound and use this pedal when I want to unleash the filth. It's a heavy stoner rock chaos type pedal rather than your typical classic rock fuzz but that's exactly what I bought it for. It loves a dirty amp which I've heard usually isn't the case with muff style fuzzes.

The FZ-5 is a COSM modelling pedal. That's probably why you didnt like it.
