I would then add in a couple of the above mentioned songs to bring this list back up to 20.
Some of the others look pretty straightforward, so if on the day at any point you need someone strumming some chords then I'll happily join in.
My mission, should I choose to accept it - suck less!
My worst problem is only finding time to practise when I'm knackered, hits my confidence badly.
I've played it far too many times and frankly to have someone coming in at the last stages once all the organisational work has been done and second guess why we are doing what we are doing is irritating.
I'm happy to step away from the day and you can find another drummer to do it if Bigjon is running the show.
This isn't a pro gig- no one is getting paid- we are playing songs we chose based on good reasoning.
On the length of the set- if anything, based on past experience doing these things, it is too long but I am happy to do the 20 song list.

I've already started looking at some of these and practicing and I'm sure I'm not the only one. As has been mentioned several times further up, you can't please all the people etc...
My Trading Feedback | You Bring The Band
Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after youI'm not going to justify the individual choices we made- people are welcome to come along and enjoy the day but we won't be having backseat drivers, especially with 30 people in the room- it will be unmanageable otherwise.
I'm sorry if people are offended or put out but this is how it is.

My Trading Feedback | You Bring The Band
Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after youMassively appreciate the effort you and the others are putting into this.
My advice to people here is accept the set as it is- we might end up making a few changes but it won't be because we are pressured into doing it here.
I'm sure the three of us can all promise that when someone else organises one of these we'll accept the set and respect their decision making abilities.
I'm offline for a bit today but will check back in later on.

I didn't contribute with any song suggestions, but I think the list looks great, so thanks to you guys for sorting it.
When I read it I thought "Oh shit, ive really got some homework to do before the day as there isn't really much on their at all that im familiar with (even on a listening basis)" But, you know what, that's cool. Adds to the challenge and therefore the fun also.
It means id be trying to play stuff that I normally wouldn't have approached. That can only be good
As I said before, once I am presented with a final list I will work hard to make positive contributions to the songs and make the whole event as enjoyable as possible for everyone. I am available as a drummer (reasonable, not expert, probably about grade 7 standard) so you won't need to drum on all the songs if you don't want to.
All you need to do on the day is turn up and play guitar.
I realise you are experienced but so are a lot of us.
There will be a second room than you could potentially play drums in, I'll let one of the others comment on what gear needs to be brought, I don't have much to do with that.

Nobody said that doing a Jam session was going to be easy. Organising it certainly isn't.
When we we started this off, it was always for inexperienced players to sample what playing with other musicians was all about, to get advice guidance and help from experienced players, and to some extent understand what some of the challenges of being in a band or playing live is all about.
With that in mind, we have shortlisted 20 songs for the main room so that a formal list can be learned, practiced and run through - both for players coming to try for the first time, and for the band as well.
The songs we chose are specifically for this purpose - and believe me it's not an easy task. But it is all about being fit for its purpose.
If there is stuff you don't like or don't know, well, to an extent that's part of being in a band. It's rarer with originals bands - but with covers bands you will play a hell of a lot of stuff you don't like, find boring or don't get. It's part of the challenge.
So, as self appointed boss of the world, the original list will stay. It is now the permanent list. It is, indeed, written in stone, for I have said so. I will copy and paste it up to the top of the thread later on when not on a stupid phone.
If you don't like the list at all, then you have some options:
1. Room 2 has six slots for six alternate songs. @Alnico will draw up a provisional list, and this one will be subject to more liquidity depending on what you want. But, if you want to do a specific song, it will be your responsibility to find other musicians to play it with you on the day - feel free to organise that here, but we will only get the slot booked with a time. After all, this room is far more flexible.
2. Spend the afternoon chatting, trying amps and guitars, socialising, watch others play, chill, take part in the amp shootout. There's loads of that about
3. Don't come - we have a keen and eager waiting list, so if you are really struggling with our song choice then please do tell us (no hard feelings) and we will let someone else in,
Now, moving the discussion on, we have 6 weeks or so to get practiced and polished on the 20 songs on the list. Here is my recommendation. Post your top 5 songs that you would like to have a go at and we will endeavour to match you up to at least some of your top 5. Maybe all 5, maybe not. If one is really popular then we may run it twice and ditch something really unpopular. Pease identify your standard when giving us your requests - beginner/intermediate/expert - don't lie either (you will see why in a bit)
In the meantime, we will agree keys of each and so forth and post here.
I will be brutally honest here and no offence intended - learning 5 songs in 6 weeks is a huge undertaking for an intermediate player let alone a beginner. Don't be a hero. If you want to sign up for just one, then more power and sense to you.
For the experts - we will match you up to beginners to help them through their chosen songs - you can have a good widdle fest, but remember the main aim is to help the beginner through it - it's all about them..
Let me tell you how I see it from my point of view - I'm a gigging bass player. I'm not a bass hero, nor am I a beginner. 5 or so songs is probly my limit given all the other prep and organising this will need. I'll play those 5, but I'm there to help the beginners, not to show how great my bass playing is - which is a bloody good job frankly. The key difference is I am very comfortable playing with other musicians, I do it week in and out with drums, keys, guitars and vocals. That's the experience I bring along. That's where I'm going to focus my help.
So - keep it simple in your replies - give us your top 5 songs, and your ability level.
Any questions - Ask.
1 - Cupid's Dead
2 - Beat It
3 - Cynical
I'd put myself at north of intermediate, significantly south of Clarky. Guitar only, because I'm a guitarist and not a musician...
(Including the honesty )
Fortunate Son (This was one of my suggestions) Can play the rhythm in the original key, so I guess that's inter. Going to try and learn the lead parts.
All right now: I've had a little experience with the rhythm. I'll practice it. Beginner
Hard to handle : Never played it, will practice this one lots! Beginner.
I also recall volunteering to help out on vocals for Cupid's Dead. There's a few others I'm happy to help with vocals on too. Either backing or lead.
