NGD - PRS Vela Satin

What's Hot

Hello!

I've been lurking here a while here, but this is my first post and a relatively rare (for me) NGD. I was on holiday in Brighton recently so visited GAK (local guitar shops are tiny with limited stock) and picked up this Satin Vela.

I really like it so far, it feels great and sounds good. It's my first PRS and I've been impressed with the build quality.

The finish is super thin and a couple of very small chips have already appeared so I think this will look quite worn in quickly.

great guitars, I have a gloss Vela and a satin S2 standard and the satin standard has missing finish areas already and its only 1 year old. I want a stain Vela now.

Nice guitar. I like the satin PRS finish, I had a Singlecut Satin Soapbar years ago and the back of the neck wore shiny quite quickly to give a lovely feeling neck.

Thanks all - I'm really pleased with it! I wasn't particularly looking for a PRS, was initially convinced I was coming home with an SG or a strat but it just won me over.

The main issue now is that I want more PRS'!

Love the old skool cellulose look scratchplate, great score - really fancy one of these myself.

    I don't like PRS-es. I like that guitar a whole lot.

Not sure how to deal with this state of affairs now ...

Looks lovely.  That finish really suits the vela!

I didn't realise the satin finishes exposed the wood grain so much, I really like that.  The tortoise scratchplate looks great too.

any marks on a finish like that can be covered with a bit of brown shoe polish rubbed in.

I'll be honest, I was always in the 'PRS are for dentists' camp, but after sampling what I can now only think of as Mr Smith's gateway drug, strange things are happening to my taste in guitars.

I'm now looking at my Telecaster and thinking 'needs more birds'.

Interesting, thanks - there is a tiny chip on the back of the neck that stands out a bit. I'm on the fence whether to just let it be though as I think it may be the first of many.

It is very different from most of the rest of the PRS line.  I had 6 US PRS guitars at various points and ended up selling the lot.  I recently bought one of these, and it is great, but I'm not rushing out to buy a Custom 22 or DGT again.  I am tempted by the 594 though.
