Rage Against The Machine- Rage Against The Machine
Oasis- Definitely Maybe
Radiohead- The Bends
When I was just turned 16 the older brother of a school friend introduced me to R&R/Rockabilly which I thought was great compared to a lot of the stuff around at that time. In particular he played me a Gene Vincent album and raved about the guitar player then challenged me to learn it, in a mocking sort of way. So I set about learning every Cliff Gallup solo and all his fills on Vincent's first two albums. No You Tube back then so it took months of listening and slowing the vinyl albums to half speed (remember that?) but I got there in the end. All note-perfect. It didn't do my playing any harm.
I've never learned whole albums note-for-note like that since. Never had a need to but it was fun at the time.
I transcribed a Pulp for a mate back in the 90s. It wasn't very hard.
I don't think I've liked an album enough to learn ALL the songs before. I had a bit of Manics thing in the mid 90s where I worked out a lot of their stuff but never whole albums.
I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to
is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?
PJ Harvey - Dry (when this album came out I was a bass player & had just started to learn guitar. Think the way it was mixed made it easier for me to pick out parts)
White Stripes - Red Blood Cells (Great raw guitar sounds, my favourite record by them)

Haven't played any of that in ages, aside from "High and Dry". Must dust off that muscle memory ...

loads of queen stuff
despite it being silly and youthfully foolish, it really helped move my playing forward and showed me a few different techniques and tricks, so it actually added value.
