I would only choose someone who I have seen perform live rather than listening to albums etc........but out of all the bands I've seen since the early 70s I'd go with Dave La Rue....one of the very few times I watched the bassist play as much as the lead guitarist (who was Steve Morse). He is a stunning player. Myung of Dream Theatre comes a close second.
If I had to pick from album listening alone it would have to be John Entwistle..alas never got to see the Who live
