I'd venture it'd cost a chunk more to get a new Mexi Standard and have a decent tech fit a sustainer, and you'l still have a Mexi Standard that's worth maybe 450 with the wind behind it. This will be a better guitar and worth 600 any day of the week.
Not sure about the fat neck, would probably want to try it!
At the high end of the mim price range, some of the price difference is purely wage differences. I'd prefer to buy high end Mexican than low end American. Only reason I didn't with my Strat is because the American had the specs I wanted.
It seems expensive but compared to the cost of doing it yourself it's pretty fairly priced.
I've had a road worn Strat and let it go because it was so lifeless and lacking compared with my Plus Strat and AVRI one (which cost me £500 and £750 respectively). I'm no cork sniffer - I bought the road worn because I loved the look of the guitar and how it was on paper. It just felt so... underwhelming compared with my others no matter how much I wanted to love it.
People seem to want to compare this with other 'high end' mex strats - what's high end about this one beyond the pickups costing as much as the rest of the guitar? The road worn had nitro, relic work, a nice sanded neck - a custom shop vibe for the MIM range. This has the pick-ups and a different neck (with the neck shape having no bearing on cost).
It does look cool though.... :-D
Is that what the guy was playing in the PMT review clip? I've never really listened to much Radiohead so I didn't know, although of course I'd have guessed as much. It sounded good to me.
I guess in a demo like that the artist's own material is a good place to start, but then the reviewer could go on to show what else the guitar can do.
Remember that room of too many guitars you had and how you felt better after getting rid of a load??
My understanding is this is a new production model? Not a limited edition?
No band really NEEDS three guitarists I suppose, but he could have afforded to retire years ago if he was bored with it!
