Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.
I think this has held up much better (don't get me wrong, those are some great films) but the lack of special effects and Mel Gibson and explosions means the film doesn't look so dated and the script is a strong script regardless of time.
One thing that irritated me about it is that the Jag could have been no more than ten years old in 1969, and wouldn’t have been anywhere near that ratty and rusty.

... and that's just some of the ones I recognise from the list of 'notable films' for 1987 on Wikipedia. I don't like all of them, I haven't seen them all - in fact some of them are not my kind of thing at all - but they're pretty much all 'good' films. (Well, maybe the last couple aren't .)

You can’t come on and have a pythonesque jibe because someone has said 87 was a good film year after listing the Witches of Eastwick..

Comedy is very much a product of its time and, quite often, doesn't really work for people who missed it the first time around. Mrs9000 is eight years younger than me and, i guess, that makes a whole lot of difference to how she views a film like this.
Another 'cult' film I rewatched recently was Dark Star (1974). Apart from the elevator scene it really wasn't very funny at all.
