I was browsing Wildwoods looking at their array of guitar porn and noticed.

Private Stock now with a weathered finish
Not sure if they have done this for Wildwoods or its something they are now offering frankly for me I want a 10k Private Stock to look like its new and I will happily do the rest, but each to their own.

This is a Private Stock 594/Dave Grissom mash up with weather checking

@samldr1984 Bought a gold DGT relic years ago now so they must have been doing it a long time.

  • It looks like someone has held it by the headstock and dropped it from 10 feet!

That looks a bit naff to me.  I think flatter body guitars look better relic'ed in general.  But hey, what the customer wants the customer should get!

Peach Guitars had a factory-reliced 5-piece DGT run done years ago for some anniversary.

The RH2010 model (25 pieces I think) was an "aged" finish.

There are a few other examples off and on over the years. Paul himself is not into the idea, but if you give them enough money they'll do it.

Peach Guitars had a limited run commissioned of DGT's about 6 years ago - Lightly aged - Think all gold top - I think you'll find this has been spec'd and commissioned as a one off for Wildwood

I know they can change policy, but I recall Paul saying years ago we won't offer a relic finish - we fit strings to the guitars so you can play them and apply your own relic finish via use

Excellent now my dentist can buy a PRS that looks just like an original one from the late 50s/early 60s...

I’ll tell him next week when he’s crowning my tooth.

I agree it looks awful just had not seen it before, as you say give people enough money and they will do what you ask LOL.

To me its not one thing or the other.

That'll teach some dentist to keep his work equipment and his guitars out of reach of his kids.
Edit: That is a private stock that I'd happily see kept private, locked up permanently. It's horrid!

To be fair, that pic above does not show the guitar at its best - Probably shows it at its worse - Here is the link to their site https://wildwoodguitars.com/product/17243936/wildwood-guitars-private-stock-dealer-limited-dgt-594-3/?cat_id=213

But I don't think any of the pics do it justice - There is  a lot more light ageing going on as can be seen on the pics of the rear of the body - Yet equally I can't see any sign of ageing to the hardware

I know not every one buys into the aged vibe - I know many think a PRS should look perfect - I don't think the pics do justice whatsoever to the finish - But I do know that PRS and Wildwood would not accept a mediocre attempt

Forgot about the RH2010 models - I sold 2 or 3 of them at the time - Slightly unusual in that the top gloss coat was perfect, in the usual PRS manner - The unique 'aged vibe' was under the top lacquer, almost like a bleached character - So not stressed in the usual Relic Fender approach - I recall they had a job to produce all 25 for some reason - Rich Hannon had some issue getting it right - Can't recall what it was now

It looks like it's been setup by 'my personal tech/luthier' so well known from ebay ads.
    New knobs - check.
    Tightened pickup switch - check.
    Fitted straplocks - check.
