Bought one mail order guitar, a harley benton 335 and it was great.
Mixture. Some new, some second hand. Almost all of the ones I've ended up keeping were ones that were bought new. My bass is probably the only exception to that.
All the recent new stuff has been at good rates. The R9 in my avatar was in the blowout last year, and in a shop I would have paid a similar amount for a second hand one. The last 4 new guitars I've bought have all been at least 15% off the normal retail price.
As others have said, it often makes sense to get electronics new. When I bought my Kemper, a B stock new one with a full 3 year warranty was only about £100 more than they were going for second hand. In that situation, you are better going for the new one.
It does bother me more than I want to give mental energy to, so getting something that I know is second hand would at least put my mind at rest.
In either case, if it doesn't work I'd have to go through the hassle of returning it.

Bit of a mix but mainly s/h. A new guitar has to be an unusual heavy discount or similar.
Sometimes with a pedal new is good - David Barber is a good guy, and getting one direct from him was £20 cheaper than buying from the UK, inc shipping & tax. @Magnetic_Effects aren't pricey either and is great gear. It's nice to be able to support people like this even in a small way.
s/h effects from tFB classifieds though, lots of that.
So I wondered if anyone here buys new kit. That is all.
