Which CHAIR do you practice in?

What's Hot
Looking at getting a new chair as I think my chiropractor and current chair have come to a mutual misunderstanding.

Anyone got any recommendations? Ideally it will also be silent as I will also be using it to record acoustic guitar from.

Ps. would rather not have to butcher an arm off a new chair but I am open to suggestions

A lot of office chairs with arms arrive without them fitted, or they're removable.

  • My office swivel chair has no arms. For lessons I use dining room chairs. Comfy with no arms.

  • Sit on the toilet.

The acoustics are great and there' s a lock on the door! :)

Usually just my office chair as that's where my guitar gear all lives. It was a cheap one from Ikea

  • I use an IKEA Step Stool type thing, I feel it's good to make me sit upright and also I can put one foot on the lower step if required for the right angle

I’d been sitting on a leather swivel chair with arms for years. Just yesterday I took delivery of a Tama ergo rider (drum throne) from Andertons. It’s the one they use in all their videos. Very comfortable and can be adjusted over a good range of heights.

I've shortlisted some for you depending on the guitar you play..

For a fender this would suit.. just remove the whammy..

    Gibson would be obvious:

Or if you play prs, you'll already have a decent set:

    One of these...

A child's 'junior dining chair'. The seat is 50cm high and small, so it's more like a stool with a back. My kids don't need it any more and I was going to charity shop it, but I found it was perfect for playing guitar.

A Stokke Tripp Trapp might be worth a look too - also designed for a child, but completely customisable for height, seat position etc. We've got one but it hasn't been retired from child duties yet, I'll get it when it is .

Don't laugh, scroll down to about halfway...

(The upper seat panel comes out.)

Anyone experienced those chairs that connect to the sound source and vibrate in sympathy with low pitched audio?

I think they're designed for playing computer games but I wonder if they'd be any use for playing bass with headphones on so you can feel the notes as if there was a loud amp.

I know there are floor square things you stand on for this purpose and they're very expensive but designed specifically for playing bass. But would like to be able to sit down.

I'd have to change to playing left-handed or take up the ukelele - my bathroom wasn't designed for the guitar player.

I've just got an old office chair with a gas-operated height adjustment. I took the arms off and it does just fine.
