Double neck guitars - are they played in "real life"?

Following the introduction of the eye poppingly priced Slash ES-1275, I was wondering if double neck guitars are played by anyone other than stadium rockers.  Has anyone of TFB used one, or have seen one being played at a modest local gig?

Only stadium rockers can afford the chiropractor fees.

I bought the Epiphone version in my youth. It was good fun, but it never left the house for band use.

It takes some getting used to .... not so much the weight but the inbalance ....they are very neck heavy so you balance it with your foreman while playing it.

I guess if you can afford one, you can afford to employ a foreman to hold it for you?

I used to own one and gigged it three or four times in the early 80s.
The case was about the size of a wardrobe and the guy who bought it from me had to walk a mile back to the railway station. He later told me he stopped for a rest about six times, because he wasn't very tall and if he held the case by its handle it touched the ground before his arm was straight.

I don't think he kept it long either.

I use one for songs that need it (h california, some bon jovi stuff etc). It’s really light and cost 300 quid. I recommend them, they’re great.

Some twin neck guitars seem to be a guitar and a bass combined...

What's the point of that? Get a bassist instead!

But having said that, in my band we do get through bassists at a fair old rate...

I still get this beast out now and again - there’s one number where the 12-string adds a bit of colour on the first couple of verses, and then the bass comes thundering for the last couple of choruses.

Careful design avoided any neck dive, but it’s still a bit heavy, even with the semi-hollow construction.

Awesome work. Are you playing the 12-string part using a barre instead of a capo?!

Thanks, Yes I never use a capo for anything as I find them really restrictive
