This came into my reverb feed.
Someone tell me it didn’t actually leave the Suhr factory like this ?
Has to be the ugliest and least realistic looking “relic” job I’ve ever seen

Pretty Suhr *cough* they don’t do that sort of relicing. Just the light stuff on the custom classics although happy to be proved wrong.

Looks like one of those LTD guitars or a Vintage.
Maybe they dropped it, fucked the finish and thought it could be hidden? Either way, looks a bit pants.

Looks like someone was deliberately taking the piss when asked to make a relic.

Suhr: "We don't do relics, they look shit."
Customer: "But I want a relic."
Suhr: (scratch scratch rub rub) "There you are."
    Customer: "But it looks shit!"
    Suhr: "Told you."

"This guitar cane with a great ‘heavy’ distress job from Suhr but barely been played."
Should read " This guitar has been caned with a shit distress job"

Check out this Fender CS (or Masterbuilt whatever) strat. Now they just need to burn the plastics as well to complete the look

Wouldn’t surprise if it was factory - I own a Suhr so happy to say they make great guitars, but they don’t do relics very well from what I’ve seen. Here’s there “finish over finish” series they recently did - looks like a white jacket being unzipped!

Their style seems to involve using thinner to rub the finish off. As you can see, it doesn’t yield very attractive results. The colour over burst one is a good example of why not to use it. I think their intention was just to remove the white from the burst. Instead, it has bled to the burst and removed it too.

  • I don’t mean to be controversial but it seems Suhr are absolutely rubbish at relicing. When they did the colour over colour ones a couple of years back I couldn’t believe how shockingly abysmal they looked in person.

I totally take back my first post,
*this* is the worst relic I’ve seen  :o

The whole thing is making me question their judgment as a whole honestly.

They should hire a few guys from fender CS and ask them to being their stencils with them.

A bit like having fake tits but one's much bigger and a different colour to the other.

Tbh that shows a contempt for detail which would put me off trying ANY of their guitars.

Let’s not overreact shall we?  That’s a poor relic, no doubt, but Suhr makes a ridiculously high quality guitar.

why relic a guitar that didnt exist way back when .i can almost understand a strat ot tele geting the treatment but Suhr are a modern maker with little history of countless gigs ,ill treatment , and bashed around vans for decades ..just like groupies.

For me an aged finish is purely a cosmetic and sensory thing that makes an instrument more like a nice piece of wood than a shiny lump of plastic coated something.
I would totally like a nice relic finish on a modern guitar, but they seemed to have completely missed the point here.
