And well @TTony while that machine is a really good one.. it has a medium blade on it which makes it usable for many different situations.. Then you want a thin blade to do corners and the wider the better for doing stuff like bookmatching.. So I make do But yes, it must be well set up and not wobble all over the place or it would be impossible for me to do this. (and yes, I can tell when the blade is starting to dull).

A bit of a shame about those knotty bits but they can be filled and the hole where there was a huge knot that fell out can be worked around.. Ive done some cutting boards where we fill it with a black filler.. Actually looks pretty good.

And the thing is that I don't make commission or anything, I really want to just show you guys how beautiful it is as its worth knowing about. Before I started working at the timber company I hadn't even heard of London Plane. As I think many people haven't.. All of this wood came from outside Euston Station (I know HS2 BOOOOO) but if my boss hadn't turned up at a meeting the council would have chipped and burned something like 150 tonnes of this wood.. Which would have been an absolute travesty (its bad enough they took them down in the first place).. And this gives the wood a chance at some new life be it as a guitar or table or whatever.. Its one of the reasons I like working there (as well as getting first dibs on any wood I want )

I also had a "lacewod" top from them but I'm less sure that was London plane. It had the big scales look that was almost reptilian, but was a big to work with

Both were sold as lacewood from the same source, but definitely very different woods
