Basically - the current rules state that only the main vocal has to be live.
Everything else, even the backing vocals, can be on a tape.
It used to be all live, then mining was allowed as long as all instruments were on stage even for the mimed parts, then it got more and more limited.
Now it's just the main vocal that is compulsory.

And a vague memory of a Hondo copy.
If you go back a few years there was a pit orchestra that played the live music even if there were instruments on stage. There were certainly competition versions of the songs that varied from the version on record because they had to be rearranged for the orchestra ( often taking out electronic instruments).
Perhaps with orchestras on tape purely from a set swapping perspective.

Nobody seems to be able to definitively identify any recordings on which the instrument appears.
Longhorn owners confess themselves unable to extract a "Jack Bruce" sound from the instrument.
