JM build | Pedalboard plans
I think he must have meant £80 - there's no way they could even bother for $80.
I loved the Musket (which is actually primarily based on the green Russian Big Muff) and is incredibly tweakable but in the end found it almost too tweakable - so it's a taste thing not just on sound but functions.

FOR SALE - Catalinbread Echorec, Sonic Blue classic player strat and a Digitech bad monkey
Amazed no-one's mentioned that yet... basically the circuit is a copy of the Shin-Ei FY-6/Univox Superfuzz, but it has two-band EQ so it's extremely versatile, the usual Boss buffered switching so no popping and it's immune from not playing well with other pedals, and if you get bored with fuzz it has a useful clean boost (with the EQ) mode.
I even prefer it to the IC Big Muff...
"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski
"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein
Every kind of fuzz.......smooth....velcro.....gentle OD boost but also a fantastic Trombone sound when played sympathetically
Still never tried one I quite liked the fz-3, but that's quite a different beast.
If you're on a budget (or just want to try something a little different from the usual Muff/Face/Bender variations without spending much then the Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz which lives on my small board is brilliant, the only reason I have something else (Fuzz Dog/Pedal Parts Peachy Fuzz) on the big board is that the Dano's form factor and control placement are a PITA and I just kind of fancied having a go at building something. They aren't identical but they're very much the same vibe and they both sound bloody brilliant...
For playing strictly at home the DOD Carcosa is probably what if pick. Just didn't like it when playing with others
I want to try an FZ-2 still though! Behringer do a clone that's apparently identical for a fraction of the price.

This is a custom build from @juansolo and it's INCREDIBLE. I hope he doesn't mind me using his photo.
The right stomp is a Jumbo Tonebender, which I'd never heard before but juansolo recommended it for its sheer tone as a muff variant. He was right, it's slightly crunchier than most muffs and has a certain 'thing' going on that makes it fabulous for bog standard rock riffs gone fuzzy through to Muse-style 'Supremacy' tones. It's really the Big Muff for people who don't think they like Big Muffs.
In the middle is a muff of his own creation, called an Ultrastoner. It's got loads of distortion, a huge mid scoop and a mids knob to bring back some if you want it. It also has a clipping switch for silicon, LED or germanium. I like the germanium for heavy doomy sludge but the LED is probably the best for everything else. It's not a smooth lead muff but with the mids up you can definitely do some melodic work (it's still a *tiny bit* scooped with the mids maxed), especially on the LED mode.
Then on the left is a super hard on. My favourite boost ever, it was an always on sort of thing as it makes everything before and after it sound better. Apparently Juansolo has designed a new boost circuit that's even betterer so one day I'll have to give him a call.
It's not currently being used as muffs don't get along with Vox AC15 circuits and they sound both fizzy and flubby as balls. This one is for Marshall or Tweed Fender amps with big power stages and the headroom to handle it. I tried it into a blackface twin reissue and it sounded pure shoegaze - very Ride. When I've got a more powerful power section, it'll be superglued to the board.
For the vox, I use one of three fuzzes currently - either the Zoom Ultra Fuzz for noisy stuff and ragged nasty tones, the Boss DF-2 in turbo mode, which is a huge, sustainy, middy lead tone that's more fuzz than distortion to my ears (that's on my board 99% of the time) or a Valvesporker for sheer noisy, mid-dominated noisy nonsense. Probably the most fun pedal I've ever owned. Sadly, I'm not playing much at the moment as there is no room in my room to have everything set up... So I'm strictly a guitar -> amp for now
