really fancied a sci fi film last night but couldnt think of anything decent and ended up with this.
McCarthy plays a CIA analyst/agent who goes undercover etc etc, pretty standard Bond style plot with a villain doing some nasty stuff to threaten the world. At 2hrs 10 its a wee bit long for a film of this type but it has some genuinely funny stuff in it, good performances from McCarthy and especially Jason Statham who just reminded me of the kid at school who'd done everything but actually nothing. Very sweary and not one for the kids despite it looking a bit family friendly from the poster.
Everest
Depressing true story.
Very formulaic and relies too much on jump scares.Saved only by the very pretty female lead.
I have to say, at times it was the biggest cliche I have seen ever. Utterly dreadful but so bad it was compelling.
I think they blew their budget on Dwayne The Rock Johnson.

A thoroughly nasty study of violence and corruption in the name of religion.
Still great, despite some rather dated acting and effects (bad fake blood especially) by modern standards.

Wow .. I just turned up here to sing it's praises.
Basically, I was all ready to hate it - my son wanted to watch it and I was a bit meh. Tom Hardy is in everything these days, I opened my cupboard the other day and there he was apparently studying my jumper for a new role...
anyway.
I thought it was brilliant, had touches of the first films - cutting frames to speed up the action (unlike previously when this was for "realism" in stunts, this time it gave an edgy feel to the action scenes. The imagery was wonderfully in keeping with Thunderdome without the guys wandering about with their bums hanging out.
New societies, caste systems, rituals and ridiculousness, epic scenes, grotesqueness seen in 80s horror, really Australian big-bosses - I reckon it got the whole Max thing really well.
It's an action movie so lets not argue about not dying of blood-loss, physics and dimensions stuff that the film clearly falls down on
Mel Gibson must be cursing the Jewish Media Conspiracy, when Tom Hardy does Lethal Weapon with Cuba Gooding Junior, he'll be a ghost!
