You are wholly wrong. It's far more tiring and harder to read light text on dark backgrounds.

Install Stylish as a Firefox addon then "Write new style" for this website and cut and paste the above into the edit box and then save it. You should see that quite a bit of the white stuff turns grey and other parts are toned down.
Do note that it's very far from complete, more a proof of concept/starter for ten (some of it is pretty ugly/clashes!) but hopefully it provides you with something you can play with/tweak - just pick out elements and colour/style them as you like.
