Don't then!
Personally I wouldn't want to see him at Marlin Sidewinder level....
But I'm struggling to convince a friend to make a Go Fund Me page where she's moved to the UK from the US (and is an EU citizen) gone to uni and then after starting got told that because she's not back in the EU for two year so wont get a student loan, so had to pay for her first year and doesn't know how she's going to pay for the second year... she's frantically applying for jobs and I thought go fund me to help out would be a good idea... but she wants to do it on her own effort and merit
Different strokes for different folks I guess
In what we laughingly call the real world, musical instruments are either the tools by which we make our living or an indulgence. Either way, they have to be paid for.
Option 1) work and save up
Option 2) borrow and repay out of future earnings
The latter involves convincing some stuffed suit that you will be able to make regular repayments. Can you see that happening for young Dave?
The only slight thing I'll say in poor Dave's defence is that he's obviously some sort of z list youtuber.
He probably thinks he's asking the people who follow him and like his stuff. Whatever that is?
I'm sure he's not expecting random people who know nothing about him to stump up the cash.
Back to the principle side of things I wouldn't lower myself to this personally. I'd rather sell my arse* than beg on a YouTube video.
*Thankfully I've never needed to. And for clarity I wouldn't to fund a guitar!
And, happily, this seems to be working for "young Dave". As of writing this he's over 25% on the way to this goal. Result.
And, if he also manages to piss off the miserable grinches in this thread, double result. :-)
I have not said anything personally derogatory about the guy.
I would be perfectly happy if Dave gets his wish and launches a fabulously successful career in Blues guitar. Unfortunately, as a former work colleague of mine used to say, Dave has more chance of getting a gobble from The Queen.
A cycling Youtuber I follow has recently raised over AUS$50k on Kickstarter to go vlog at the 3 Grand Tours with his girlfriend (and do a lot of nice holidaying in Europe and the UK in between the Tours.) Hit the target within 4 weeks!
His channel is pretty good (did the Indypac) and has 40k+ followers though, so maybe it's just a case of "if you don't ask, you don't get"?
I do struggle with the whole notion of crowdfunding because I'm not sure I trust them to spend the money on what it's intended for, worthy cause or not. It's probably better policed than I realise but it's enough to put me off.
I assume that the purpose of this site has been perverted from the original purpose. Presumably it was intended to launch business ideas / seed capital or fund community type projects ;Scout Huts, Adventure playground etc
I don't know much about these things ......was it ever meant to be a personal gratification assist / chancer's mea culpa ?
Is this strat worth £7k ?
If so maybe someone could loan him the money with the guitar being put up as security for that loan.
I have no trouble with kickstarter where they've done all the design & prototyping and lined up a manufacturer for something and CLEARLY have a good product, but just need capital to put an order in. That's great and I've supported several of them.
But the ones that are "I have an idea for a game where you're a witch but you're actually a pirate and you go on adventures in the style of the goonies in the 16-bit era but it's going to be in 3D and with a heavy metal soundtrack and art by my brother dave who is really good and it's going to take about 3 years to finish the game but you're basically paying my living costs for that time and there's only a very limited chance I'll a) finish the thing and b) deliver something that's even remotely how I describe it today...
No thanks...
