I'm Paul, 45, from Newcastle upon Tyne, i'm a guitarist, petrolhead, runner, and Tea addict.
My username is inspired by Peter Paul Gaultieri aka Pauley Walnuts aka Winghead from The Sopranos, still my all time favourite TV show.
My continuing musical ambition is simply to be happy when i play, i gave up long ago trying to emulate my favourite players and comparing myself to other guitarists.
My favourite bit of gear is my Fender American Vintage '65 Strat, i'm a bit of an anorak for the vintage detail and after years of missing the mark in that respect Fender finally hit it.
I couldn't possibly narrow it down to 1 favourite track but i suppose Sultans Of Swing by Dire Straits is special to me as it's the first song i learned to play completely from beginning to end.
;-)
Thank you kindly

I've lurked on and off, both here and at the previous MusicRadar site, for years, and I've also posted a bit - usually impersonal one-liners. And I've bought and sold a couple of guitars via the forum.
And I'm now finally getting around to introducing myself.
Q1: Where did your username come from?
I made it up one day off the top of my head. It seems to allude to a small pigeon or pidgeon :-).
Q2: Where in the world/country are you?
Originally from Cumbria, now in Lancashire.
Q3: What's your main musical ambition?
After playing rock/pop for many years in local bands, I'm getting increasingly interested in jazz. Sorry for the cliched life trajectory :-). In this vein, I've recently done a few open-mics and amateur scratch-combo gigs playing ASM/jazz stuff, and am keen to do more. I'm retired now, and after years in a time-consuming "responsible" job, I finally have the time to focus on this. I'm still a relative novice at the jazz stuff, but learning more every day.
So I'm keen to take up opportunities play jazz/ ASM stuff with others around the Lancaster/ Preston area. Apart from that, I still play in a "pub rock" type band playing all the usual stuff, and I love that too. I sing a bit with the rock band, but am too shouty and untutored to do justice to jazz/ASM singing. But I try.
Q4: Your "best" bit of gear - just the one?
My Gibson ES330 is currently my favourite guitar. I use a tele and strat for the pub rock stuff, and the 330 gets used for the other stuff.
Q5: Your #1 ever track - again, just the one?
I'd be hard put to pick a track - I like music generally and tend not to get attached to specific recordings/tracks. I'm familiar with rock/pop stuff over the decades, of course, but recently I've been listening a lot to "classic" female singers (Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, etc); sax players (e.g., Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon); and jazz guitarists (e.g. Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Joe Pass, Django Reinhardt - I like his later electric stuff more than the acoustic gypsy jazz stuff).
So, hi everybody!

Hi all, i'm Kev, 45 and living in Oxfordshire, UK. I dabbled briefly with guitar in my early teens but puberty, pubs and girls got in the way and i just stopped playing. Realized i spend far too much time on the computer and was talking with the wife about how awesome it would be to be able to play an instrument. She said 'if you spent half as much time strumming a guitar as you do on the computer you'd be playing along to those songs you listen to before you know it. Don't know why but that just give me a kick up the backside and i thought i would give it a try as i did start spending a borderline unhealthy amount of time playing computer games. Picked up a bass and started dabbling but, as awesome as bass is, for the type playing i am wanting to do (just messing about in the house, no intention of joining a band although that would be a cool thing to do in a couple of years), guitar will be more fun for me so will be looking to sell the bass to help fund a guitar and some lessons or an online course, will cross that bridge when i get to it. Looking forward to having a read through the forums here, looking at some 'guitar porn', getting my first guitar and starting to learn. My fave guitarists are Zakk Wylde, Kirk Hammett, Joe Perry, Mick Mars and Jim Root to name but a few.
