I like the idea of having the angle in the pocket even though I have done the hee
on my first couple of builds
nice work indeed.
Thanks very much chaps, cheers.
Pete I reckon it could be converted to Myka-style, thought that would be a backup if it all went south... and still could be handy at some point. Seems OK though as it is, the fit's neat & tight.
One thing yet to figure out completely is propping the end of the template against flex, I used a wood wedge this time which was dead solid but the ol' brain cell is mulling over a neater idea.
of the routed pocket as the guide for the rest of the 35mm deep pocket rout

: ) Cheers Rabs
Pete, I've a couple of 32mm long cutters, 1/4 shank and 1/2 radius, from Wealden. On one I added an extra bearing to make the most reach possible.
On this body it was enough reach to leave 6mm floor at the front of the pocket. With a thinner plexi plate on the router it'd have a hair more reach, that'd be OK because it's not really going to flex here, I think that one's 12mm.
Katsu bases are like a tenner delivered so I might get another one and leave it on a thinner plexi base ready & waiting, if ever needed. Or could rout down a couple mil into that base instead, inset the router slightly.
Got the frets in, nice Jescar NS wire, in a med jumbo size (slightly wider & taller than 6150)

And neck shaping starting

The new jig base is dead handy for general fettling, the clamps put down a lot more force than I guessed they would. Roundover done

And neck glued in. 'scuse the novelty condom... helps protect the headstock corners while works going on. The lip inside the cutaway is quite thin so a couple of wedges keep it in check, just in case

Quick update, sanded & finishing started. The top has a very thin coat sanded back, I'm quite liking the natural look, but still will add some colour later

The neck went pretty orangey vs the body after the same thin clearcoat, but tinted the neck first and then the body so they sit better together. The pic's a bit darker than in some lighting but here we are.

Yesterday's progress, top coloured in, binding scraped and starting to lay clear down - bit hard to photo not least because I'm terrible with a camera or phone and it changes a lot with light
