Why would you want to turn your volume down??????
Shite.
I had an old Boss OS2 which I found 'sat' much better than the OCD in a band context (with the OS2 was fully on the OD setting) although it's really not that great when listened to in isolation. That led me to thinking more mids worked better for me in band context, so I decided to take a punt and got a Maxon OD9 (Tubescreamer). It's nothing too exciting in isolation, but in a band context it really works and remains sounding warm, whereas an OCD just got thin sounding.
This reflects my experience of home recording, where I've found too much bass from the guitar muddies the mix and top end (with not enough supporting mid) sounds thin.
But I'll caveat that by saying that and OCD (which sounds great in isolation) could probably really work for certain styles of music.
Muff - non rams heads are too scooped.
OCD - fizzy
Ibanez sd-9 - fukin terrible
Klon - boxy odd midrange, boost? Meh
Tubescreamer - it blends a driven signal with the clean signal? Urgh.
And any chorus.
Roland AF100 BeeBaa is a stonking, amazing and mental fuzz and would tick most boxes for anyone wanting a fuzz (did the mentally noisy, distorted, constant sustained, fuzz for intro to Magic carpet ride like a goodun).
Though not sure what silicon combined is. Probs doesn't tick the silicon thing as was all a circuit
