'Snowflake'. Snowflake? Do people actually get offended by being called it? I can honestly say that the only people I have ever seen or heard use it are without exception, utter cunts. It's a really bandwagon term is it not. I expect it will have had its day in the near future, hopefully along with the folk who take delight in using it. What a clusterfuck this place is at times.

ofcourse, a good way to reduce the impact of train drivers industrial action would be to create and nurture an economy that spreads the wealth and jobs around the country and doesn't concentrate it in one small area, somethng that governments over the last 40 odd years have actively discouraged. The rail unions are strong in London due the number of people who live and work there.

I don't blame the unions for doing the best they can for their members, it's called self interest, something that has become very much a byword in the last few decades

but unions are typically affiliated to the labour party and claim to be socialists - how can unethical and selfish behaviour be aligned with that?

dunno, but I can't blame a union for doing it's stated purpose, which is to get the best deal for its members. Human nature I guess

Sorry to have sidelined an Election thread into a discussion about trade unions, but there was a genuine point being debated a few pages back which got lost a little along the way.  Apologies.

Back on track...Did anyone see Question Time last night?  I was surprised to see the vast majority of audience members were openly skeptical (or outright dismissive) of the Conservative claims that this election was called to "unite a divided Parliament" and that it was "in the best interests of the country".  It was in Oxford, and I'm not sure what flavour of politics dominates there, but regardless of that, it was encouraging to see a good cross-section of people in the audience calling this out as the blatant party political move that it clearly is.
I watched it too, had a very different view, I thought that the tribal boos & clapping were evenly spread, and the vast majority didn't partake at all. Only person talking sense all night was as usual the only non-career politician, the non-partisan peer lady.
I've always hated TV question time
Bunch of pro politicians towing the party line and patronising anyone who watches, extra often pointless questions added by random audience members
    unconvincing and just grandstanding

I much prefer the R4 one, but even that is rarely worth listening to

Much better to hear John Humphries or Eddie Mair grilling a politician, one on one

They're workers, not philanthropists or volunteers.

Unethical and selfish behaviour gets aligned with loads of things. Political moral high ground, corporate values declarations from companies who make weapons that kill people, Pot Noodle...

I wasn't insulting you. I was pointing out that the term derives from some seriously unpleasant characters. I actually think it's quite amusing. I imagine that I am definitely a snowflake... it's almost like being part of a big friendly club really.

Most people work to live and pay the bills therefore the majority of people are working class.
The fact of the matter is that some people earn more than others this is market economics.

When a three bedroom house costs £700000 and a 4 bedroom house can cost a million you need to earn a decent wage. I apologise if I painted a picture of £15 an hour being on the breadline that was not my intention. When I moved to London 22 years ago I was earning £14000 and living in a shoebox it made me determined to build a better life.

Some people are cleverer than others, some people play guitar better than others.

Some people are older and wiser than others.

We have lots of people in society who live for free maybe not the greatest lifestyle choice but each to their own.

Life is about choices you can choose the red pill or the blue pill you can choose to be nice on the internet or a cunt on the internet.

Choose wisely ladies and gentlemen and stay off the crack.

Im also not even vaguely insulted by being called a snowflake.

Im sure @vimfuego pictures me quivering with rage at his "witty" come backs but actually he was competing with watching compiler output to finish before I could go home.
