That's what I'd try tbh, it's one of those odd things, have you tried shimming the neck to increase the break angle at the bridge or the nut slot is too flat and not angled back a little

An iffy nut slot can make buzz/sitar like noises, either a little burr or its not sloping down to the head end so the 'break' over the front edge isn't clean & crisp.

Thanks for the input! - having had a mess about with it, it's definitely nut related, pinging the string out and resting it on a flat part of the nut, no sitar type noise.

Ive checked the depth of the slot compared to a couple of other guitars, it is quite high compared to those, I'll run a file through it again and try @Corvus 's suggestion of sloping it down a touch at the head end.

Possibly also adding a little pencil graphite into the slot to aid lubrication of the string?

Thanks for the input @Kalimna @sweepy and @Corvus  - got the '10 nut file out, ran it through a few times and added a slight slope towards the headstock and the buzz / droning noise has gone D

Yup - beat me to it . Nut slot needs to be higher at front edge than rear
If not then the active bit of  thestring will not be sure of where it starts from and you'll get sitar like sounds.
If it had been the bridge at fault you'd have buzz every note, so as it was only open then the nut is to blame as you found out.

To get this back on track, to level the frets, I used the Wudtone fret levelling system, after getting the neck straight.

Once level, I masked around the frets with 3M tape, used a Crimson fret file, followed by 1200 wet and dry, 0000 wire wool and a Crimson polishing rubber. The frets came out nice and shiny. Not a professional job, but the best one I've done so far.

Today, I deepened the nut slots and did all the wiring apart from the pickups

Got a nice little delivery from Marc @ Mojo today D

It lives!! Sounds great too. Tiny bit of tweaking to do to the setup, then proper photos and NGD post at the weekend. Very happy

@PVO_Dave Out of the blue I just remembered this thread from last year. I never got to see how the guitar came out. Having just dropped by again, as expected, that is one awesome looking guitar! Right up with my very favourites that I have seen here. Great job!
