Car air con condensation?

What's Hot

Usually quite knowledgable with cars, but none of the previous motors I've used have had working air con..

Current one does, but today after 30 mins of driving with the air con on full whack, I stopped to fill the tyres up with air and noticed a puddle and water running from underneath the car. Couldnt quite make out where it was coming from, but it was dripping from somewhere on the underside of the car, a bit behind the engine bay.

It seemed clear, not luminous green like the previous car pissed out after a failed air con refill.

Is that normal? Just condensation?

Yes, that's normal. All my BMWs over the last 20 years did that .. :-)

Yep, perfectly normal for a/c units to drip water.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

When t was green, that would be the dye used to find leaks.

The water drip would just be the moisture taken from the air as the A/C was running, and nothing to worry about.

If it was petrol/diesel then worry.

it's the water that condensed onto the chillers from the air pumped in to cool you

It's not normal. A puddle underneath you on a hot day means you have wet yourself you big baby.

Definitely not normal.  That sounds exactly like your bunion joint has burst and it's leaking friction fluid out of the crundle cylinder.  Until you can get it to a garage, the only option is to drive with the heater on full.  That will reduce the pressure on the cylinder and stop the leak temporarily.

If you let it continue to leak, eventually the Fullers reservoir will empty and, with no friction fluid left, your brakes won't work.

I don't know what you're playing at by trying to be funny. The bloke has asked for genuine help.

You know full well that water under a vehicle is a classic symptom of a worn window wiper mechanism.

My mate's Lotus was getting drips of water from the engine area and he got the AA out thinking it was the radiator. Turned out to be the water reservoir for the window washers hadn't been closed properly when he refilled it.

If it's a BMW or Audi, it's probably just an indicator fluid leak. Common problem, most people just ignore it.
